Instagram

Since it started, Instagram has become a favourite among brands, celebrities, and thought leaders, as well as a fun and useful way for people to stay in touch with friends and family.

Well, Instagram says that the social media site is “a free app for iPhone and Android that lets you share photos and videos.” People can upload photos and videos to our service and share them with their followers or a small group of friends.”

If we stick to the basics, this is how Instagram works:

1. You can share things like photos and videos on your own Instagram account.
2. Follow the accounts that you like.
3. People can keep up with you.
4. People can “like” your posts and comment on them, and you can do the same for other people’s posts.
5. Users can choose whether their account is open to the public or not.
6. Instagram is used by businesses to sell goods and services.

Now that we know the basics of Instagram, let’s look at how it has grown to become one of the most important platforms for business growth.

The free social media platform has more than just pictures. It also has short and long videos, popular video clips, and live streaming.

“Instagramming” is even a word that can be used as a verb.

Kevin Systrom started it in 2009 as an app for sharing photos called Burbrn, which caught the attention of two investors.

After getting seed money, Kevin was able to hire Mike Krieger, and the two of them started working on what we now call Instagram.

The Instagram app came out in 2010, and on its first day, it had 25,000 users.

Instagram got $7 million in Series A funding in 2011, and by March of the next year, there were almost 27 million users of the app. And in April 2012, Facebook paid about $1 billion to buy Instagram, which it still owns.

Adam Mosseri is in charge of all of Instagram’s business functions, such as engineering, product, and operations.

In June 2021, Mosseri said that the social media platform was “no longer just a square photo-sharing app” and would instead become “a general entertainment app driven by algorithms and videos.”

Instagram is one of the most important platforms for businesses now that more than 1 billion people use it every month.

In fact, 90% of Instagram users follow a business account, and 36.2% of business-to-business (B2B) decision-makers use Instagram to learn about new products or services.

So, what is Instagram’s secret formula?

Instagram said in a blog post that the social media app is run by “a variety of algorithms, classifiers, and processes, each with its own purpose.” This makes sure that each user has a personalised experience.

In fact, each part of the app has its own algorithm that is based on how people use it. This includes the feed, Explore, and Reels. People go to Stories to see what their closest friends are up to, while Explore is used to find new things to read.
