You need a clear vision when analyzing any image or video footage, a blurred, interruptive, unclear, or tampered image or video may result in a foggy conclusion. You need a good video enhancement tool to get it all clear. You should expect to analyze video footage captured by surveillance cameras and similar sources by clearing various obstructing factors.

VideoCleaner is a free and open-source tool for forensic video enhancement and tamper detection software created for law enforcement, and now available to everyone. Use any Windows computer to process digital images and nearly any compressed video, including some proprietary formats, and Video Cleaner includes a screen capture tool for everything else. Advanced compression algorithms support the best evidence at minimal file sizes.

Adjust a few real-time sliders to brighten poorly lit scenes, improve facial recognition clarity, recover license plates, change viewing perspective, reverse lens distortion, stabilize camera motion, and so much more. Faint movements (e.g. weapon or person), distant color changes (e.g. fire origin or traffic signal), and small details become obvious.

It is a labor of passion intended for the sole purpose of determining the truth, regardless of one’s financial status. Everything is free, including lifetime support and updates. If you appreciate the software, please share your opinions to help others to discover it too.

VideoCleaner Video Analysis Software Features

Usability

  • Tools: This group is your primary toolbox with corrections for lighting, color, artifacts, focus, and hotspots.
  • Curve: Bend the illumination allocation range.
  • Forensic: Emphasize object edges, amplify or isolate changes, average away noise, and isolate iFrames.
  • Analysis: Test image and video authenticity with special filters that can detect content manipulation. The User’s guide explains this section in great detail.

Controls

  • Use / List / Override / Subtract features: Slide to the right to see a list of all active VideoCleaner features, override the built-in conflict/overload checker or subtract the changes.
  • Enhancement Transparency (7=bypass): Slide rightward to overlay a greater percentage of the untouched video. The rightmost position disables all enhancements.
  • Compare Original to Enhanced: Move the slider to the leftmost position to view just the video as it is being enhanced. The next position places the original and enhanced versions side-by-side. The next rightward setting places the original and enhanced atop each other. The rightmost position will show a single video that sweeps back and forth between the original and enhanced versions.
  • MODE: Normal / Full / Both / Matrix: Determines what the Compare slider will depict as the original. It can be the unenhanced version with the same size & frame changes, the untouched version, both, or a matrix of them all.

  • Angle: Flip or rotate the scene as needed.
  • Crop: Create a zoomed-in view. Adjustments can be made by either exact pixel counts or percentages.

  • Channels: Deactivate any RGB color channel or convert the video to a gray-scale or negative.

Specialty

  • De-Sequencer: Remove inconsistent or bad frames (e.g. sequencer, not pan-tilt-zoom video feeds).
  • VHS: Repair the chroma, jitter, and synchronization issues associated with digitized VHS recordings.
  • Lens: Correct fish-eye and pin-cushion lens distortion.
  • View: Change the viewing perspective by setting quadrilateral coordinate pairs.
  • Colorize: Adjust the RGB video colors. Includes strength and frequency controls.

Finalizing

Final Controls

This filter group will always be the last one listed

Usage of VideoCleaner

General controls
Press the F5 key on your computer to load the preview screen, or anytime you need to reload the video. If you experience an error, simply choose the UNDO option under the EDIT menu {shortcut is CTRL-Z} to reverse the last change (cause of the error) and then use REFRESH PREVIEW option under the VIDEO menu to reload the video {shortcut is the F5 key}.

Your keyboard’s F1 key lists all of your hotkeys. The F2 key opens up your custom settings area.

Feature sliders
Each feature is controlled by a slider that can move anywhere from its leftmost to the rightmost position. You can also use your mouse to drag the slider to a new position, or simply mouse click on the left or right arrow located at either end of the slider. On the left of the slider is a brief description, often followed by a default value shown within curly brackets. The current slider value is listed in blue to the far right of the slider. Mouse click on the number in blue to reset the slider back to the value from when opened your video or last pressed F5. In general, the leftmost position turns a feature off and the rightmost turns it on.

Sliders that can only travel between a value of zero (0) and one (1) means that its leftmost position of zero turns the feature OFF, while the rightmost position of one activates the feature (e.g. List all active features (0)). If the slider offers multiple value options, then each value matches its place in a list. For example, the Compare Original to Enhanced (OFF / Side / Atop / Sweep) slider accepts values from 0 to 3, each representing a different feature option.

Playback bar
The playback bar is located immediately above the status bar with the standard playback controls. You can also use your computer keyboard to move through the video. The right arrow moves forward a single frame and the left moves back one frame. You can hold the arrow key down to advance rapidly in either direction. Use the up arrow to advance the video by one second of playback time, and the down arrow to move back by one second. The page-up and page-down move forward or backward by one minute of playback time. These shortcuts and dozens more can all be customized using the Keyboard Shortcuts option located in the Options menu.

Status Bar
The bottom bar of AvsPmod (the graphical interface of the Video Cleaner script) lists useful facts about the open video. The lower-left corner shows the current frame number, and total frame count (e.g. 6 / 50 means you are on frame number 6 of a total of 50 video frames). This is followed by the playback time for the current frame, which is based on the video playback speed.

The right side of the status bar lists the width and height of the current video in pixels (e.g. 640×480), and is followed by the ratio of these numbers. The next number is the current playback speed in fps (frames per second), which is changeable using Video Cleaner. The last item is the current color space and Video Cleaner will attempt to maintain RGB32 to ensure maximum detail retention.

Toggle boxes
The top section of VideoCleaner includes toggle boxes that are controlled with your computer mouse. When the box is checked, the denoted section becomes active and visible.
