At the top of the Class schedule, see the heading “SEARCH BY DEPARTMENT SUBJECT.” Opening any of these drop-down menus and selecting a subject will automatically display an alphanumeric list of classes in this subject. (Entering a keyword search will change to order to reflect the relevancy of your search term in each result.)

A keyword search in the Class Schedule combs through every word on the page, such as Subject, Special Title, Class Description, and Class Notes. The algorithm gives the most weight to text at the top of the page, so a class with the search term in the Subject or Course Title will generally have a high ranking. However, a class with multiple instances of the search term in the rest of the text (Course Description, Special Title, Class Description, Class Notes) could potentially outrank a class with one instance of the term in the Subject or Course Title.

Berkeley's present and past class schedules (through Fall 2016) are freely available on classes.berkeley.edu for viewing in the provided format which is updated throughout the day to ensure accuracy. Since class schedule details and enrollment numbers are constantly in flux, a static CSV or data file is unavailable as the information would quickly become outdated.

For breadth lists prior to Fall 2016, see the L&S Archived 7 Course Breadth List website. L&S does not maintain lists post-Fall 2016. Instead, you can search for breadth using the filters on classes.berkeley.edu for Fall 2016 moving forward.

The class details page features a graph timeline that displays all reserve seat rules over time, assuming reserve seat rules have been added to the class. This graph is the best way to view past, current, and future reserve seat rules. Since reserve seat rules are based on start and end dates, the reserve seat rules may only appear under "current enrollments" between these start and end dates. To display Phase I reserve seat rules under current enrollments prior to the beginning of Phase I, enrollment managers can adjust the start date of the rule in Campus Solutions to today's date.

STAFF-SPECIFIC

Check out this handy diagram of a Class Page, with notes on where data comes from:

Next day after 8:00 AM plus the time it takes for a specific term/subject area's turn in the queue. When the class schedule is actively reporting three terms of classes it can take until after end of the business day to show the previous day’s updates. The Class Schedule is actively reporting three terms of classes from April-May (Spring, Summer, and Fall) and in December (Fall, Spring, and Summer).

Real-time plus the time it takes for a specific term/subject area's turn in the queue.

Next day after 8:00 AM plus the time it takes for a specific term/subject area's turn in the queue.

Real-time — within 2 minutes maximum. This also applies to regular enrollment.

While class information is generally refreshed from Campus Solutions by 8:00 AM every day, the system requires repeated confirmation that a class should be removed from the display. The system will not stop displaying the class until it has checked two times and gotten the same result for that class, which can take up to two days. We are working to shorten this interval.

In general, one to two business days.

First, check that “Schedule Print” in “Maintain Schedule of Classes” on CS is checked. “Schedule Print” can be found on the “Basic Data” tab. Once this is checked, please allow until 8:00 AM the next day for the class to display.

We are currently not using "Stop Further Enrollment” to feed into the Class Schedule. We recommend changing the enrollment capacity in the Enrollment Control Tab to zero or to the total current enrollment. The guide will automatically display "No Open Seats" in these cases.
