Hello, friends. ❤️ Today we will talk about the exciting news for the Swedish market  Gambling tax in Sweden has increased from 18% to 22% of GGR from 1 July 💸 The Swedish government expects the additional tax revenue to be approximately €47m per year. 💸 The tax rate increase was opposed by virtually the entire industry. Gustav Hoffstedt, head of the Online Gaming Industry Association (BOS), urged the government to reconsider its plans before it was too late. Svenska Spel has decided to start reporting on the health of the group’s revenues, that is, what proportion of the revenues comes from customers with a lower risk of gambling problems. Svenska Spel’s reporting is based on the risk models in the company’s gambling analytics tool, Playscan, which have been developed in collaboration with Sustainable Interaction. – Reporting healthy (and unhealthy) revenues is an important step for the industry to become more transparent. We will see a great diversity in the figures presented by different companies due to the fact that they define and measure healthy revenues in different ways. Nevertheless, it adds information to the debate around regulation, says Jakob Jonsson, PhD and clinical psychologist at Sustainable Interaction. Our first quarterly report of 2024 reveals a solid start to the year, with strong sales figures. For the first quarter of the year, Net Sales amounted to SEK 192.4 million (195.5), and EBITDA was SEK 36.4 million (41.6), corresponding to an EBITDA margin of 18.9% (21.3). The product margin was 42.8% (40.4). "In line with our expectations, the first quarter of the year displayed sales levels consistent with the previous year. This is despite facing high comparative figures from 2023, during which we had a growth of 66% in the same period. We observe that the demand for our products continues to be at a high level, and for the full year 2024 we see good opportunities for growth." — Jonas Holst, CEO. In addition to games for entertainment purposes, elements of the gaming world have also entered classrooms, and therefore there is a demand to understand games, how they work, and how best to utilize games for educational purposes. At Åbo Akademi University, the SPROK Project with Emmanuel Acquah at the head is developing a game that will help people with a foreign background to learn languages, including Finnish or Swedish. The idea of the game has roots in early 2020s and preparatory work is in full swing. Fast forward in 2024 - currently, user testings of the playable demo are conducted with selected Finnish schools, Novia University of Applied Sciences, and at the Experience Lab by mediacity, Åbo Akademi University in #Vaasa. Abios, an e-sports provider, has appointed Rasmus Schmidt Christensen as their new Head of Odds Operations. Schmidt Christensen joins Abios from Danish operator Danske Spil, where he worked for eight years, beginning as a sports trader and eventually becoming an eSports Product Specialist. In his new role at Abios, he will leverage his extensive experience in online sports betting. This newly created position will require Schmidt Christensen to integrate new esports strategies, drawing on his experience in customer-focused teams. He expressed his excitement about the role, stating, “Having worked in esports for years, I’m thrilled to join the Abios team. As they’re building new and exciting products on top of best-in-class data and modelling, Abios is at a very exciting growth stage.” Abios' Managing Director, Anton Janér, emphasized the importance of esports expertise, saying, “Esports is a fast-growing segment within online sports betting.
