Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Canada’s newly appointed ambassador to Denmark, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, at our Copenhagen office 🇨🇦 Carolyn has dedicated more than 20 years as a family physician prior to a political career that counts multiple terms served as a minister on the federal level, amongst others as Minister of State for Public Health and Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. Given Carolyn’s strong profile, knowledge, and passion within healthcare, we are thrilled by her appointment as Canada’s new ambassador to Denmark. Swiss-Danish knowledge exchange on structural reforms in healthcare, hospital infrastructure, and digitalisation 🇨🇭🤝🇩🇰 Today, we had the pleasure of hosting CEO Hugo Keune from the Cantonal Hospital of the Canton of Grisons in Chur, Switzerland, for an insightful visit focused on the Danish healthcare system and Denmark’s digital journey. At the meeting, Senior Advisor Peter Wiisbye provided an in-depth introduction to the Danish healthcare system, highlighting the 2007 structural reform and the strides made in digitalisation. This set the stage for Søren Sünksen from not a box, who further elaborated on the new hospital infrastructure in Denmark and discussed the merging of hospitals, ongoing construction projects, and the development of highly specialised professional environments for medical research and education. High-level visit from the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand 🇹🇭🇩🇰 Today, a delegation of Thai healthcare officials, including directors of major health divisions, hospital directors, and Provincial Chief Officers, visited Denmark on a two-day visit. Their goal was to learn about Denmark’s approach to building sustainable collaborations and public-private partnerships to meet the challenges of an ageing population and rising chronic diseases, as well as to understand the role of technology and digital solutions in home care. The delegation was welcomed by Dorte Bech Vizard, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Danish Ministry of the Interior and Health, who introduced the Ministry’s government-to-government work and Denmark’s current political priorities within healthcare, followed by an account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, highlighting the work of the Danish Health Diplomacy. CEO at Digital Hub Denmark, Nicolaj Christensen, gave an insightful introduction to Danish GovTech and the digitalisation of Denmark’s public sector with a particular focus on nationwide implementation. The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Coloplast and Novo Nordisk to gain inspiration and perspectives on ways to improve healthcare through patient centricity and how to drive change to defeat serious chronic diseases, respectively. The day was concluded by a site visit to Bispebjerg Hospital, where the delegation met with CEO, Kristian Antonsen, and Chief Innovation Officer, Brian Holch Kristensen, to learn about the hospital’s work with innovation. High-level visitors from Bavaria explore the Danish approach to digital health 🇩🇪🤝🇩🇰 This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Bavaria’s Ministry of Health, Care and Prevention, led by Minister Judith Gerlach. The delegation considers Denmark a role model for digitalisation and wanted to learn how Denmark tackles healthcare challenges that both countries are facing⚕️ During the 4-day programme, the delegation met with Minister for Digital Government and Gender Equality, Marie Bjerre, and exchanged knowledge on best practices and innovative solutions within digitalisation in healthcare. The programme also included presentations from key knowledge institutions such as The National Institute of Public Health (Statens Institut for Folkesundhed), who shared insights on their flagship projects, and healthcare providers like Local Government Denmark (KL), who presented the municipal efforts to securing efficient health promotion and prevention initiatives with the use of digital tools. Several companies such as Falck, Netcompany, and Trifork also showcased their widely used digital solutions that contribute to delivery of quality healthcare closer to home. At Maersk Tower, the delegation learned how innovative public-private partnerships can help overcome societal challenges associated with the growing chronic disease burden and witnessed the state-of-the-art research environment and facilities of the location. German newspaper reports on Denmark’s digital journey and robust health data infrastructure 💡 Following a conference last week organised by the Lower Saxony State Pharmacists Association, Pharmazeutische Zeitung reports on Denmark’s leading position in digital healthcare and the Danish Pharmacy Act from 2015, which led to an increase in the number of pharmacies. Solving complex health challenges require innovative solutions and shared commitment. How to bridge stakeholders to pull in the same direction? 🌎 In collaboration with Udenrigsministeriet, Indenrigs- og Sundhedsministeriet and Erhvervsministeriet, Healthcare Denmark will host “Tour de Health’24 – Partnering for Sustainable Health Innovation”, this October. The conference will spotlight the power of multi-stakeholder and cross-sector collaborations showcasing Danish best practices and the fundamentals of a thriving health ecosystem. An example to follow is the multi-stakeholder partnership Lighthouse Life Science with a coalition of over 300 public and private partners, including regions, municipalities, pension companies, and knowledge institutions. Utilising data-driven evidence, emphasising implementation, and focusing on international scalability, its goal is to improve health equity and drive economic growth. In a coordinated effort with the embassies in the 13 Danish health diplomacy countries, high-level governmental, non-governmental and other healthcare stakeholders are invited by Healthcare Denmark to join Tour de Health’24 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Danish-Italian Collaboration on Healthcare 🇮🇹🤝🇩🇰 In close collaboration with DI - Dansk Industri and Embassy of Denmark in Italy, Healthcare Denmark welcomed a Danish Life Science delegation to Rome on a three-day export promotion event, where the delegates engaged with prominent institutions and stakeholders from the Italian healthcare system. Ambu A/S, Corti, Coloplast, Lundbeck, LEO Pharma, Novo Nordisk, OSAA Innovation, and PDC A/S participated in a high-level symposium to discuss and collaborate on shared healthcare challenges. Furthermore, the delegation visited Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS Hospital in Rome to learn about the impact of new technologies and AI in healthcare services, as well as visited #UniversityCattolicadelSacroCuore to explore and discuss key healthcare themes and challenges.
