Good Morning America fans were in for a welcome surprise during Monday’s (July 8) broadcast. Michael Strahan was finally back on the air after two weeks away, and he was joined by his co-anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopolous.

The GMA hosts appeared to be in good spirits this morning as they discussed Stephanopolous’ exclusive interview with President Joe Biden and spoke to The Bachelorette‘s first Asian-American lead, Jenn Tran, ahead of the season premiere tonight.

Strahan’s absence from the show raised questions from fans who wondered if this could be the end of his run on the show.

While he was off the show, several outlets resurfaced a 2023 interview in which Strahan candidly spoke on his plans to retire one day.

“I guarantee you this: I’ll be off TV before a lot of people [are] sick of seeing me on TV,” Strahan said at the time.

For now, it looks like that’s not the case. Here’s why Strahan was not on Good Morning America recently.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed to DECIDER that Strahan was away on vacation ahead of the July 4th holiday.

Roberts and Stephanopolous also had some time off from the show as Stephanopolous prepared for his interview with President Biden, leading to a major GMA host shakeup Friday, July 5.

But Strahan and the GMA crew weren’t the only ones to take some time off for the holiday last week. Other daytime programs like Today and CBS Mornings also saw some key players missing, with Hoda KotbSavannah Guthrie and Gayle King off the air.

For now, it looks like everything is back to normal on Good Morning America.

Good Morning America airs weekdays at 7/6c on ABC.
