The potential Game of Thrones sequel headlined by Kit Harington is no longer in development at HBO, the actor and main driving force behind the project said.

Harington had been reluctant to speak about the spinoff while it was still at the idea stage “because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it,” he told Screen Rant. “And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

Word of the potential series, a sequel to Game of Thrones centered on Harington’s Jon Snow character, got out in June 2022. Following the leak, author George R.R. Martin revealed that the series had Snow as a working title and that it had writers/showrunners on board, brought in by Harington.

At a December 2022 GoT convention, Harington theoreticized what could be happening to Jon Snow after his character killed Daenerys at the end of the mothership series.

“I think if you asked him, he would’ve felt he got off lightly,” Harington said. “At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be. He’s done. The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”

There are currently two prequel GoT series, House of the Dragon, which is headed into its second season, and the upcoming A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, which is now casting.
