Head of Underwriting Germany (m/w/x)

Are you an experienced Underwriter looking for an exciting new challenge? At AXA Partners, we are seeking to recruit for a Head of Underwriting Germany position that will be based at our local headquarter in Cologne. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing our team of underwriters, overseeing underwriting policies, and ensuring profitable growth for our portfolio (automotive – roadside assistance, travel, home and health business lines). You will report to the CEO AXA Partners Germany & Switzerland, work closely with the sales team, and interact with Central Technical Excellence teams.

What You'll Be Doing:

As Head of Underwriting, you’ll manage AXA Partners established portfolio of key accounts and support the sales department with market knowledge and pricing. You’ll work with the team in direct contact with the sales and marketing function and external customers as required, ensuring AXA Partners has the right products in the market with the right values. You’ll have active involvement in product development and design as well as contract design, and implement the risk policy, also participating in the strategy group as part of the strategic plan. You’ll analyze product, conditions, claims experience and associated risks to determine risk-adequate prices through own calculations and in direct exchange with central units of the AXA Group and local management. You’ll also be responsible for managing and monitoring the technical profitability of the portfolio and controlling as well as measuring various risks to support an effective risk management strategy.

Other Key Responsibilities Include:

• Day-to-day management of the team and the development of team members, ensuring optimum efficiency and quality of the team and harmonious working
• Ensuring the profitability of the portfolio (new business pricing, Portfolio Management Process, risk selection)
• Supporting Compliance and Risk Management to monitor various risks
• Re-pricing existing business on renewals and renegotiations in line with Underwriting guidelines and entity targets
• Preparing proposals in line with the Group's profitability targets and sales strategy
• Providing customer and claims controlling documentation to support the decision-making process for management and sales negotiations
• Monitoring claims development and developing methods, as well as report and measure to improve claims performance where necessary
• Support the sales team in customer meetings to negotiate new and existing business, demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance, and design as well as calculate profit shares
  
  

Your Profile

About You:

You have a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in economics, statistics, mathematics or law, or similar with relevant subjects. You have extensive work experience in the insurance or financial sector and you are a people manager. You have strong affinity for dealing with figures, raw data and corresponding IT tools. You understand and can draft legal documents such as insurance terms & conditions and contract wording. You are a confident and articulate communicator, able to interact with senior level executives and you are a team player. You are fluent in German and English, and you have good knowledge of Office applications, including Excel.
