Head of Supplier Development Automotive

SKF Automotive Business Area is a global organization with production and customers in every corner of the world. We are now seeking an experienced and ambitious leader to help create and shape a Supplier Development team. We are looking for a proactive, can-do, hands-on, dynamic personality that is enthusiastic about building teams. The Head of Supplier Development will be globally responsible for hiring, training and managing a team of Cost Estimators and Supplier Development & Quality Engineers who will work with our global supplier base and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initial key task is the creation and hiring of the team. This will include clearly defining the way of working, the short- and long-term goals of the team and how to interact with the internal stakeholders and the supplier base. Thus, you will manage a team of professionals whose responsibility will be to work with the supplier base to ensure their goods are produced under optimal conditions (i.e. implementing best technology and mastering operational excellence), with the right level of quality and at the right cost. More specifically, you and your team will calculate should-cost as base for objective price discussions and measurements for new projects, in dialogue with the internal key SKF stakeholders (i.e. Procurement, Business development, Sales teams) and towards the key external stakeholders (i.e. supplier base predominantly, customers if needed).
  • Being also responsible for supplier quality, you will ensure that the supplier base is producing the goods we buy with the highest level of quality in line with best practice of Automotive production methods and standards. You and the team of Supplier Development Engineers will frequently visit the suppliers’ manufacturing locations, driving them through a continuous journey towards excellence and competitiveness. Together with the other Procurement leaders, you will be a key contributor for shaping the supplier and category strategies for the components bought and fully managed by Automotive. Together with the category teams, develop new suppliers to strengthen SKFs regionalization strategy.
  • Ensure SKF high standards on sustainability are catered for, continuously identify and implement opportunities to measure and reduce CO2 per product, increase recycled content and safeguard ethical business. Actively support the make or buy decisions with excellent background knowledge on supplier capabilities.
  • Lead the Team and identify talents and opportunities, bringing leadership and organizational changes needed to deliver against SKF’s goals.
  • Build a working environment based on speak up culture and trust.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a technical field required, additional business qualification will be meritorious.
  • Proven experience in at least two of the following functions: Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Cost Estimating, at least partly in leadership roles. We are looking for someone who knows Cost Estimating, Supplier Development & Quality.
  • Proven skills in guiding a global organization across various cultures and regions with strong Manufacturing, Quality and Business experience.
  • Fluent in the tools and technologies required to successfully digitize and visualize real-time Procurement and Quality data.
  • Demonstrated success in building a global and agile team setup from scratch, finding the right talents for the right position.
  • Proven ability to interact and effectively influence leadership across cultures and regions.
  • Advanced writing and presentation skills; proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to travel – SKF is a global organization with colleagues & suppliers across the globe.

Some Additional Information

The preferred work location is Europe, in one of the major SKF Sites, as Airasca (Italy), Schweinfurt or Luechow (Germany), Gothenburg (Sweden), on local contract.
