The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-

Wittenberg offers the temporary position (limited to 3 years) of a


Scientific Assistant (doctoral student) (m-f-x)


The position is immediately open and available as a part time employment (65 %).


Salary will be in accordance with the assigned tasks and personal qualification up to payment category 13 TV-L.


Tasks:

• planning and execution of scientific projects regarding the role of B-Raf in the neurodegenerative disease

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

(see Hensel et al., 2021, PNAS, https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2007785118)

• analysis of primary neuronal cells as an in vitro model of SMA

• design and production of Adeno-associated viruses (AAV) for the transduction of neuronal cells

• biochemical analyses of protein-protein interactions

• establishment of an optogenetic sensor for the analysis of cellular signaling pathways

• writing scientific papers and giving scientific talks

• possibility for own qualification as doctorate candidate


Requirements:

• Master of Science or Diploma (in biochemistry, neurosciences, biology or similar)

• previous experiences in cell culture techniques and protein biochemistry

• sound basic knowledge in molecular biology, molecular cloning and imaging

• keen interest in scientific work combined with critical thinking, initiative, and enthusiasm for lab work

• high capacity for teamwork, resilience, flexibility, reliability, and a sense of responsibility

• strong communication skills in English both oral and written

• excellent software knowledge (Office, Excel, ImageJ, Prism)


Information about the lab:

The position is offered in the group of Prof. Hensel. The Hensel lab is a newly established group. We offer an open and appreciative work environment in a highly motivated team. Our scientific program focuses on all aspects of the neurodegenerative disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and beyond. From cell lines to mouse models, from Western blots to Omics, from AAV-gene replacement therapies to confocal laser scanning microscopy – we employ a plethora of different approaches and methods doing basic research on clinically relevant topics in neurosciences.
