🚀 Breaking 🚀 New 2024 🇺🇳 WHO Report 🇺🇳 on the Status Quo of the digital health landscape in the European Region 🗺️ (the geography not the economy). 🐣 Takeaways: 1️⃣ This is a great benchmark for future developments 2️⃣ Adoption of Digital Health Policies: There's a consistent trend across countries in developing and adopting national digital health policies. These policies are crucial for setting frameworks and standards, indicating a strong commitment to integrating digital health technologies. 3️⃣ Overarching health data strategies: Are still stuck between a rock (interoperability) and hard place (secondary uses). Kudos to Finland for having implemented the most mature health data strategy on the planet today: mandating a national-level data model and decoupling data from systems by leveraging the power of #OpenEHR. 4️⃣ Emphasis on digital health education: Germany leads the pack. 🦾 Areas of potential improvement 📈: 📊 Evaluation of Digital Health Interventions: Although 77% of the countries claim to have an agency accountable for such monitoring, only 49% have developed evaluation frameworks, 37% claim to assess their telehealth services and only 19% do so for their mHealth interventions. Reasons for missing this mark have not been elucidated. 😷 All indicators collected but one, are oriented toward sick-care. Upcoming WHO reports should expand more on the effectiveness of digital health interventions in the concrete case of #NCD #prevention. This insightful article in NEJM #AI evaluates #GPT-4's use in interpreting guidelines from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology. The study assessed GPT-4’s ability to answer clinically relevant questions regarding pancreatic #cancer, metastatic colorectal cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The results were striking: GPT-4 with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) provided correct responses in 84% of cases, compared to 57% without RAG. This 27% improvement highlights the potential of this technology to enhance clinical decision-making. These findings lead me to ponder several questions: How many #oncologists would face the same challenges in answering these questions accurately? How up-to-date are oncologists with the latest guidelines, considering the rapid pace of new cancer therapies and guideline revisions? What guidelines did GPT-4 get correct: those based on expert opinion or solid evidence? At Medint, we strive to envision a future where guidelines are updated much faster than we are accustomed to today. This raises another important consideration: what about those patients who do not perfectly fit within these guidelines? I agree with McKinsey & Company . In Indonesia (and I do believe many other countries are also facing this), we cannot transform the healthcare industry using a technological approach. We have to transform it with a "beneficial" approach. The patient should feel the existence of health services as fast as he can. By doing this, there will be no more trust issues on the patient side. The problem is, how can we do it? How can we push health services to serve patients as fast as possible? That's what I'm doing right now. I have the key to do it. I have researched it with health services, and they would be so happy to do it.

With AI on the rise, promises of improved cross-border healthcare data exchange and new opportunities for research with the European Health Data Space, how do European patients feel about digitalisation? I asked Gozde Susuzlu Briggs, European Patients'​ Forum, Kristof Vanfraechem, Maria Dutarte, EUPATI for their opinion and what they hear on the European level. Education and awareness may seem to be a straightforward solution to increasing knowledge, managing expectations about digitalisation in the patient population, improving utilization of solutions and decreasing unnecessary tech-related fears, but someone needs to do the groundwork. Since not all patients are deeply involved with patient organisations, this leaves many responsibilities to decision-makers implementing and introducing new digital solutions. Laws and regulations are only a starting point for successful digital transformations. Let's continue the discussion at HIMSS Europe in Rome. Interesting,thanks for sharing Johannes Boshkow In Australia I see some of the biggest challenges being -lack of data standards and interoperability across health and social care -lack of funding and fragmented funding models -a clinician centric system rather than a patient centric system -a lack of regulatory framework(who owns responsibility for regulation for digital apps) and who does reimbursement sit with? -a lack of investment in preventative health where many of these apps sit -a lack of understanding of the commercial drivers of digital health -limited opportunities to work with providers to gather real world evidence due to our lack of investment and funding for innovation -a lack of clarity around who owns the strategy for Software as a Medical Device and Digital Therapeutics sit with? #dtx #SAMD #funding

As the push towards a connected digital health infrastructure becomes more evident, especially with the advent of European Health Data Space, we need to formulate a concrete framework for assessing the ethical feasibility of these digital or eHealth solutions. We need to make sure that these innovations hold up to the ethical considerations by helping to protect the rights of research participants, enhance research validity and maintain scientific integrity. My preliminary work in this space revolves around borrowing from existing public health ethics frameworks to ask a set of questions regarding accountability, fairness, privacy, respect for persons, public health goals and scalability.
