At last week's charity football match, X-FAB and MELEXIS were fighting for more than just goals - they were championing diversity, respect, and a good cause! 🤝⚽ The game ended in a 6-5 victory for Team X-FAB, but that wasn't the only highlight. 🏆 The two Erfurt sites of MELEXIS and X-FAB each donated €1,000 to Spirit of Football E.V. , which combines social and educational goals with the engaging power of sport. More than 200 people came out to cheer and help raise the total to €2,900. 🚀 Thanks to Marc Biron, Rudi De Winter, Jessica Völlger, and Volker Herbig for your support and presence. And a huge thanks to the players of both teams and the supporters. It was a great football evening! On Tuesday this week, all eyes 👀 were on Europe's biggest semiconductor hub: Silicon Saxony! The 18th Silicon Saxony Day took place in Dresden and more than 600 participants made use of the opportunity for networking, knowledge & technology transfer and an open exchange on chip technologies. Of course, we as X-FAB - with our strong presence in Dresden - were there as well. 📢 Michael Woittennek, CEO of X-FAB Dresden talked about the "European Semiconductor Ecosystem – how small players make an impact" during his keynote speech, emphasizing the fact that small players should focus on selling benefits and the purpose they fulfill rather than technical features, and pointing out that also artificial intelligence requires real-world signals. 💡Another type of signals, those created by light, were the topic of the presentation given by Joni Mellin, BL Manager Photonics, entitled "More than Photonics - Enabling photonics innovation beyond PICs". In his talk, he introduced the European photonixFAB project that aims to establish a European #photonics device value chain and initial industrial manufacturing capabilities and showcased X-FAB's microtransfer print-ready BCD- and RF-on-SOI technologies available for electronic chiplet designs. Our colleagues Ramona Fiedler, Stefan Ernst, Roberto Gärtner, Mirko Wittmaack and Thomas Zarbock were happy to welcome and talk to many visitors in person at our booth. #SiliconSaxonyDay2024 #EUInnovation

Last week, X-FAB hosted the kick-off meeting for the Design Initiative project DI-Meta-X funded by BMBF under “Design instrument for sovereign chip development with open source (DE:Sign)”. Innovations at chip level are required in order to design and manufacture increasingly customized, powerful and energy-saving semiconductor chips for a wide range of applications. A significant part of the expertise in the microelectronic value chain lies in the design of microchips and the software tools used for this, which is largely limited to a few established providers of chip design software. The aim of the DI-Meta-X project is to break through the barriers to innovation resulting from market segmentation and to make it easier for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enter the chip design market. The partners collaborating in the project cover various areas of the microelectronic value chain from semiconductor manufacturers, SMEs with expertise in the simulation of electromechanical systems, software development, design and testing of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) as well as research institutions with expertise in semiconductor design. #Microelectronics, #ASIC, #OpenSource, #OpenROAD, #EDA, #DesignMethodology, #Semiconductors, #MEMS Technische Universität Dresden IMMS Institut für Mikroelektronik- und Mechatronik-Systeme gemeinnützige GmbH (IMMS GmbH), AMAC ASIC- und Mikrosensoranwendung Chemnitz, EDC Electronic Design Chemnitz GmbH, i-ROM, Fbe-asic GmbH, Continium Technologies, Semikron Danfoss Muralikrishna Sathyamurthy (Murali) Jörg Doblaski
