Educational Inequality: Despite Germany’s inclusive education system, children’s success is heavily influenced by their socioeconomic and migrant backgrounds. - Only 20% of children from low-income, migrant backgrounds attend grammar school, compared to 47% of non-migrant children. - Children with a migrant background achieve the German “A-levels” at a rate of 29%, while 47% of German children do. 2. Impact on Refugee Children: Refugee children face numerous challenges, including language barriers and complex school systems, leading to lower educational achievements. - Refugee children in some states start school 3-6 months after arrival, causing significant delays in their education. 3. We had the amazing opportunity to welcome 24 inspiring Ukrainian women looking to jumpstart their careers in Berlin Tech! 🇺🇦 Last week we opened the doors to our headquarters and gave them a glimpse into the world of Wunderflats. Kudos to Lisa Theuerkauf, our amazing Talent Acquisition Partner, for hosting this event! Our CPO, Emmi Meurling, delivered an engaging presentation about our company and product. Anne Warscheid, our Project Manager for the Helfende Wände, gave a heartfelt introduction to this initiative that provides temporary housing for refugees from Ukraine. The afternoon continued with an insightful and fun Q&A session. Joining Emmi were some of our fantastic colleagues: Jurgen Wiehan, our Head of Engineering, Olena Golubiatnikova, Senior Product Designer, and Sofía Evangelista, Product Designer. Together, they answered questions about working in tech, the Wunderflats' culture, and valuable product insights. Our team shared their ideas and perspectives on how the women could achieve their career goals. One particularly inspiring piece of advice came from Emmi: "Find out what makes you unique and seek a company that perfectly embraces that difference." ✨ Thank you to everyone who made this event possible! Few things inspire me more than hanging out with impressive CEO’s that are on a mission to help digitise and decarbonise our economies. Yesterday I had the privilege to do just that, when we hosted over 50 of our companies (that grew at an average rate of 27% last year!) at our annual leadership day. This year the topic was, perhaps unsurprisingly resilience. Thank you to all CEOs and COBs taking time out of their busy schedules to attend, to the Verdane organizing committee, and to our eminent guest speakers Alexander Osterwalder and Laura Penn, Ph.D. I hope you all learned something - I certainly did! A highlight for me was getting the latest update on the Wunderflats initiative to help match Ukrainian refugees with generous German hosts. Arkadi Jampolski and his team have now helped find housing for 27 000 Ukrainian refugees, with 70% of that having been provided for free. Two thumbs way up to the Wunderflats team, and to all the Germans out there who have helped fellow Europeans in dire straits.
