In many cities, cars are taking up more and more space - often on sidewalks, limiting space for pedestrians. Until now, authorities have often tolerated this. 🚙 However, a recent Federal Administrative Court ruling has changed things: Residents in Bremen can now take action against these restrictions, and the city is required to respond. The increasing parking pressure in cities is leading to a shortage of available parking spaces. To prevent situations like the one in Bremen, renting out private spaces, such as those from retailers, can provide relief. 🚗 More and more vehicles on the roads - as of January 2024, there are 49.1 million registered cars in Germany. Parking is increasingly becoming a problem in cities: in Hamburg, vehicles occupy up to 23% of road space. Meanwhile, in Stuttgart's city centre, many parking spaces in car parks often remain unused due to missing offers for non-customers. Uta Bauer from the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu) suggests that residents and long-term parkers should be able to use these spaces.
