𝗣𝗩 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Today, we are looking back at our Intersolar round table at which both our panelists and audience engaged in lively discussions on the requirements for smart PV manufacturing and the commercialization of the latest cell technologies. 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔 - 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘇𝘇𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗯? Ranging from #WaferTracking to #DigitalTwin – #BigData and #ML solutions have only found partial implementation, if any. Sharing similar field observations, our panelists noted that even standardized interfaces for machine communication, e.g. SEMI PV2, are not yet widespread, especially outside Europe. Continued collaboration to maintain and refine already established standards is therefore essential for creating an environment that enables comprehensive analysis of both historical and real-time production data. Through persistent, data-driven optimization, the #SmartFab can help to restore economic viability of PV manufacturing at home. Furthermore, in the light of strong international competition, local production is required to specialize. The advancing commercialization of perovskites offers a promising opportunity to do so. Panel members: Dr. Fath Peter, RCT Solutions GmbH Dr. Stefan Rein, Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE Dr. Radovan Kopecek, ISC Konstanz Frank Tannhäuser, Kontron AIS GmbH Oliver Schultz-Wittmann, Holosolis Lukas Ziegler, WAVELABS Solar Metrology Systems GmbH 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕 - 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 The performance stability of standard silicon and thin-film modules remains unmatched. However, as they approach the Shockley-Queisser limit, their development reaches a dead end. #Perovskite, used in #multijunction tandem modules, is the next step up the performance ladder, and its market share will grow considerably once mass production begins (Oxford PV and Fraunhofer ISE kicked off this year by demonstrating how it's done). Although long-term stability testing has yet to be completed, our panelists are confident that remaining issues with material durability will be resolved soon enough. Finally, measuring standards for performance assessment are crucial for supporting the development of commercial tandem cells. Panel members: Nicholas Strevel, First Solar Dr. Sebastian Gatz, VON ARDENNE Dr. Immo Koetschau, Oxford PV Raffaella Giardino, PhD, MBA, CARBON Prof. Michael Powalla, Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) Waqas Zia, WAVELABS Solar Metrology Systems GmbH We would like to sincerely thank our panelists for making our round table a success! We were very pleased to welcome you as our guests at Intersolar and to have you as our PV peers. Special thanks to Dr. Puzant Baliozian at VDMA Photovoltaic Equipment for backing the event and joining us as co-host!

This was my first Intersolar with WAVELABS and I am still overwhelmed by all the impressions and positive feedback from the PV industry. What an event! • A special highlight for WAVELABS was our roundtable on the future of PV production, which we hosted in collaboration with VDMA. With panelists from Holosolis, First Solar, CARBON, Kontron AIS GmbH, VON ARDENNE, Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE, ISC Konstanz, Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and RCT Solutions GmbH, we discussed what it means for a fab to be “smart” and how to scale up record-breaking cell technologies to production level. • At Intersolar, we also launched our new product, SINUS-430 ADVANCED. The LED-based sun simulator specializes in characterizing solar cells and mini-modules made with thin-film and perovskite technology. We presented the tool at our booth to a broad audience for the first time and are very pleased with the positive feedback we received. • We were thrilled to be nominated as finalists for “The smarter E AWARD 2024” in the “Photovoltaics” category with our next-generation multipurpose solar module characterization system. This is the second time that WAVELABS has been nominated for the award; last year, we won the prize for our SINUS-360 ADVANCED I am grateful for many good conversations and insights at our booth, as well as at the numerous side events like: • the EU/U.S. Solar PV Manufacturing Supply Chain Forum. The forum aimed to promote deeper engagement between industry leaders and U.S. and European policymakers on what is needed to strengthen the U.S. and EU solar photovoltaic sectors and enhance supply chain resiliency. • the CEO roundtable, organized by BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V. and NSEFI - National Solar Energy Federation of India. The event was held at the national level, in a small group of leaders in the German PV industry, to prepare for an international CEO roundtable in September. With political backing, the common goal will be to drive forward the Indo-German partnership in Solar PV. Intersolar has once again shown me the potential of the PV industry. Times may be difficult, especially in the European market, but we are all united by our passion and the strong will to drive forward the energy transition worldwide. Thanks to my WAVELABS Solar Metrology Systems GmbH team, LED’s go forward!
