Our management team has been touring some of our sites across Europe to catch up with local teams and see the latest #connectivity developments. After stop-offs in Athens and Bucharest the tour culminated in a visit to Lisbon and to a brand new deployment. The new rooftop mast is built from a versatile composite material made of glass fibres in a polymeric matrix. Stronger than steel but significantly lighter, this mast allows customer antenna deployments on rooftops where weight, crane coordination and street closure is a consideration. Today we’re celebrating the first cell tower in the federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz built as part of the Mobilfunkinfrastrukturgesellschaft mbH (MIG) funding program! ⚡   After we received funding approval from Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Volker Wissing in January last year, we inaugurated the tower today with Alexander Schweitzer, Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitalisation of Rhineland-Palatinate.   This tower will provide much-needed mobile phone coverage for the region affected by the 2021 floods in the Ahr valley. Do you want reliable high-speed Internet when travelling by train? We’re proud to be tackling this issue in partnership with Deutsche Bahn, Telefónica Germany and Ericsson! As part of the Gigabit Innovation Track (GINT) project, we’re exploring how to achieve mobile communication coverage at gigabit speeds on railway tracks. To reach this goal, we have developed and implemented an entirely new mast concept in record time. Our innovative Smart Poles, made from standardised metal construction elements, can be manufactured cost-effectively in series and adapted flexibly to various track conditions. Curious to learn more? As a major investor in 5G and soon 6G networks in #Europe, Vantage Towers contributed to the European Commission public consultation on the White Paper: “How to master Europe’s digital infrastructure needs?”. Amongst several other topics, we commented in particular on: 📌 Spectrum policy & electromagnetic fields (EMF) exhaustion Harmonisation of spectrum management is a key enabler of the #DigitalSingleMarket and the limited EMF budget should be used more efficiently to increase infrastructure-based competition between operators at the same site, without changing the existing EMF limits. 📌 5G corridors 5G corridors will be important enablers for the Digital Single Market and pave the way for the “3C Network”. Several obstacles could be removed if hand-over connectivity at Member States’ borders and a permit for the full corridor were becoming a reality. Rethinking the fulfilment requirements of future spectrum obligations to allow for funded infrastructure to account for coverage targets in the case of 5G corridors would also boost the deployment of 5G connectivity alongside major transport paths. 📌 Land aggregation Access to the land on which the infrastructure is built is essential for TowerCos. While the Gigabit Infrastructure Act is a good first step, the practice of land aggregation still needs attention by policy-makers and regulators to avoid negative consequences for network rollouts and, ultimately, European end-users. Last week Badiaa Bazarbacha , our Co-Managing Director at Vantage Towers Germany and Jaime Abril, Head of Product took to the stage at #ConnectedConference2024. Joined by other leading voices in #TowerCo, Badiaa delivered a keynote on enabling mobile coverage across railways, a priority innovation for us as it improves the lives of citizens across Europe. Jaime also joined a panel alongside Arnau Mata-Llenas from umlaut company, Michael Langer from Vodafone, Clauda Töpfer from Telefonica and Ralf Gerbershagen from 5G Synergiework GmbH where they discussed the merits of green networks.
