🪁 Kite Camp 2024: Embracing the Elements and Team Spirit 🙌 Last weekend, we enjoyed one of our yearly highlights: our Kite Camp! And what an incredible time we had! From kite surfing to securing our tents from the wind, we truly had the chance to connect with the elements that our technology harnesses – and even more with each other. 😊🌬️ Unlike last year, we had perfect conditions for kiting. Both, beginners and intermediate surfers enjoyed their time in the water, experiencing firsthand the forces we work with every day – just on a smaller scale. 🪁 Of course, there was no pressure to join in. Despite a rainy phase on Saturday with one major tent loss, we kept the good vibes going strong! Our days concluded with communal dinners, amazing sunsets, and campfires accompanied by the melodies of laughter and handmade guitar music - late-night campfire romance, could there be anything better? 🤩⛺️ A huge thanks to everyone for bringing your amazing energy and enthusiasm – and a special shoutout to the organizing team! The winners, Ingo Scheider and Dorothee Scheider, creators of "The Intricate Design," visited us last week and brought their model with them. 🏆🪁 Their visit began with a warm welcome at our Kite Loft, where their model kite and our real kite met. Following a brief introduction to the history of SkySails and updates on our latest advancements, we explored the technology behind our airborne wind energy solutions. 🌬️✨ The highlight of the visit was watching our kite inflate as our founder, @Stephan Wrage, explained the design and interaction between the kite and the control pod. The exceptional experience of seeing the kite from the inside—an opportunity reserved for only a few—offered a new perspective on our flying system. We concluded the day with a tour of our office, guided by insights and relaxed conversations over coffee and cookies, reflecting on the exciting future of airborne wind energy. This visit was a wonderful reminder of the creativity and passion within our community. Lets talk about Innovation! 💡 Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Andreas Richter the Head of the Hamburg Ministry of Economy and Innovation together with his colleague Patrizia Tödt to our headquarters in Hamburg! 🤝 The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our groundbreaking technology and share our ideas on how airborne wind energy can be integrated into airspace. Together, we discussed the potential and future integration of airborne wind energy within and outside of Hamburg. The city of Hamburg recognizes the enormous potential of our innovation, and we look forward to continued successful collaboration with the goal of creating sustainable solutions for the energy transition and the integration of technologies such as airborne wind into airspace. Airborne Wind Takes Flight at Parliamentary Breakfast with German Politicians 🏛️ Today, SkySails and Airborne Wind Europe had the honor of hosting politicians from the Deutscher Bundestag at a parliamentary breakfast. Together with representatives from AWE, our CEO Stephan Wrage and Head of Public Affairs & Business Development Mark Hoppe, presented the state of our technology, recent developments, and discussed airspace integration and equitable financing. By including airborne wind in the Renewable Energy Act (EEG), the German government has underlined the immense potential of our technology: Green tech plays an important role in achieving the EU's climate goals but also in securing energy independence. These objectives must be backed with timely and distinct political actions, to further develop the technology and establish it as a complementary renewable energy source made in Germany 🔋. More specifically, the airborne wind sector needs political support regarding two key issues: 1️⃣ Airborne wind needs the support of public authorities to develop a future-oriented airspace integration concept that includes the needs of all stakeholders and offers easy integration of the technology into airspace. 2️⃣ While the integration into the EEG was an important first step, the technology needs a fitting financial framework to be successfully integrated into the market. Therefore, we suggest establishing a system of project financing with the KfW. The involvement of the KfW would boost investments, creating better opportunities for research, development, and market entry. Hearing about the progress and successes we're making towards our common goal of counteracting climate change from different point of views always fills us with pride and excitement. But our social gatherings are also for getting to know the people behind SkySails better and support each other in our common and individual goals. 🙌💚 Every now and then, we organize a 'Ladies Night', where we exchange ideas and get in touch with women from all SkySails teams. The most recent occasion was our cocktail evening, where we enjoyed various delicious cocktail creations outside our kite loft. The hotpot and games evening in February was also a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other better while sipping warming tea and sharing some laughs.✨ Diversity and openness towards everyone in our teams is particularly important to us, which is why we attach great importance to a positive working relationship in which all employees can feel welcome and respected.
