An important aspect for the successful implementation of clinical trials emphasised Susanne Schmitt, member of the Patient Advisory Board at the National Center for Tumour Diseases #NCTUCC Dresden during our panel discussion on the topic "Germany as a research location - Are we still competitive?" Schmitt underlined the need to dispel prejudices against clinical trials with well-founded and constructive communication. This would increase general acceptance and attract more trial participants. Dr. rer. nat. Karin Köhler-Hansner, MSc identified a very specific problem with clinical trials at the panel discussion during the 10th anniversary celebration of #SIGALSMS on the topic of Germany as a research location - Are we still competitive? "The image we have of participants in clinical trials who have time to go to doctor's visits is simply no longer correct," said Köhler-Hansner. Nowadays, many participants in clinical trials are in professional life, which would be a barrier to regular participation in trials. Other countries have responded to this with decentralised elements that facilitate the successful implementation of studies for patients. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary celebration of #SIGALSMS last Friday at the Herrenhaus Möckern in #Leipzig, we spent an interesting afternoon and a fun evening with exciting experts, great employees and many valued guests from our network in a great location and the best weather. Dr. Manuela Bamberger's insightful presentation on "Germany as a research location – Are we still competitive?" was followed by a panel discussion with Susanne Schmitt, Dr. Christoph Axthelm, Dr. rer. nat. Karin Köhler-Hansner, MSc and Dr Volker Haufe. At the subsequent get-together in the park of the Herrenhaus Möckern, everyone had the opportunity to take a souvenir photo in the photo bus, experience atmospheric live music and network. The event continued in the evening with culinary delights, reviews of 10 years of SIGAL SMS, an eye-twinkeling quiz and the honouring of some deserving employees.
