🆕 Out now! The 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 (#GSCC – a low carbon coalition of EU- and US-based steel companies) has released 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝, a global standard to measure and report steel carbon emissions. 🌍 The Standard seeks to abate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the global #steel industry via a science-based glidepath in line with the goal of the Paris Climate Agreement to achieve a 1.5º C scenario. The Standard offers a single, technology-agnostic protocol that would apply to all steel producers equally on a global basis and would enable steel customers to know and compare the actual #carbon emissions associated with steel products. A draft version of The Steel Climate Standard was published in April 2023. GSCC invited stakeholders to review the Standard and submit comments through an inclusive and open process. ♻️ 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩, a GSCC member, has contributed actively to the standard: by #recycling each year ca. 6.5 million tonnes of steel scrap via a low carbon technology (electric arc furnace),Riva Group is a key player of the #circulareconomy and is committed to the steel sector’s emission target stemming from the Paris Agreement.
