June 25th is International Scoliosis Awareness Day! As we commemorate this day during #ScoliosisAwarenessMonth, we want to emphasize the role AI is playing the diagnosis and management of scoliosis. 🔎 Traditional methods of diagnosing scoliosis using radiological image analysis involve manual measurements, which are not only time-consuming but also dependent on physician experience. These limitations hinder the efficient and objective assessment of relevant parameters in clinical routine and the analysis of large databases for research purposes. Our AI algorithms, however, can swiftly analyze spinal images, precisely measure curvature angles, and help researchers and physicians identify abnormal patterns that might have been missed through manual methods. Early detection and timely intervention may lead to improved outcomes for patients. We all know that digital surveys are much more efficient than paper-based ones that feel like they're from the last century. But have you ever tried to measure time and efficiency savings? Charité went to the trouble and expense and conducted a study about paper-based vs. electronic #PROMs: How do they stack up against each other? In a recent study they used the UNITY platform from RAYLYTIC to compare the time savings for analog vs. electronic PROMs. What they found out: Patients did complete analog PROMs faster, but significant time savings were found upon automatic import of the results into the hospital information system. From start to finish it took only 9 minutes, with paper-based forms it was 12 minutes. FDA Guidance Document for the Preparation of IDEs for Spinal Systems: The case for using an Imaging Core Lab Since 2000, the guidance document has outlined (nonbindingly) the types and scope of data that should be presented in an Investigational Device Exemptions (IDE) application for spinal systems. Even today, it remains a go-to resource for sponsors looking to receive an IDE. Depending on the type of spinal system, different kinds of radiographic evidence may need to be gathered, such as: ➡️Angular and translational motion ➡️Bone bridging ➡️Vertebrae and disc height ➡️Radiolucency 📅The FDA prefers a follow-up period of at least two years, with images being collected at PreOp, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months PostOp.
