🌱 Yes, we need a European Sustainable Carbon Policy Package! 🌍    Carbon is the fundamental building block of the chemical industry, the “industry of industries”. But currently, the industry heavily relies on fossil resources for its sourcing, with over 90% originating from oil, gas, and coal. This results in significant carbon emissions, contributing to climate change. While decarbonizing the chemical industry is a fundamental contradiction, defossilization - a shift to alternative non-fossil carbon sources - is critical to urgently align the industry with the Paris Agreement.    In order to make this transition from fossil to sustainable raw materials in the chemical industry, policies are needed on the EU-level.   We were thrilled to see the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Ireland and France call upon the European Commission putting forward a policy package on sustainable carbon.   Did you know that our waste, particularly plastic waste, is rich in carbon? This underutilized resource holds the key to a much more circular and greener future.    At Radical Dot, our mission is clear: to enable a fossil-free future for the chemical industry by deploying technology that eliminates the need for fossil fuel extraction and incineration. 🌱♻️ Today’s recycling processes are falling short, with over 90% of plastic globally not being recycled. 🌍 Even in Europe, where we pride ourselves with ecological leadership, a mere 14% are being recycled today.   There are three major underlying challenges: 1/ lack of waste management infrastructure 2/ high costs and complexities of waste separation 3/ recycling technologies unable to handle mixed and contaminated plastic waste This results in mismanaged plastic contributing to environmental pollution and climate change through incineration and open burning. The low value of plastic makes traditional recycling (i.e., mechanical) economically challenging, leaving only a few types, such as PET bottles, viable for recycling. Indeed, most recycled plastic today comes from PET bottles, leaving all other types of plastics behind. At Radical Dot, we're on a mission to change this narrative. 💡 We're developing cost-competitive technology to recycle plastic waste streams that are currently deemed unrecyclable due to being mixed or contaminated.
