🌵 Wrapping up an inspiring week at the #RDD2024! 🌵 Last week, our team had the privilege to attend the Respiratory Drug Delivery (RDD) Conference in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. Ulf Krueger and Carolina Dantas represented PULMOTREE and immersed themselves in a vibrant atmosphere of scientific and technological innovation. We were thrilled to see Carolina Dantas's poster engaging discussions with fellow industry colleagues. We would like to highlight the following sessions and posters, which we found particularly interesting for us: ➡️ Session 1 - Searching for the Grail: the path to aerosol surfactant. First, Rob DiBlasi did a great introduction to the challenge of delivering surfactant to the lungs, followed by two different approaches to the problem: Worth Longest from Virginia Commonwealth University presented the development of a dry powder surfactant and Andy Clark and Jim Fink from Aerogen Pharma Ltd. introduced a nebulized surfactant via the AeroFact device. ➡️ Session 2 - "Inhalable Polymeric Nanoparticles for Lung Delivery", by Laura Rotolo from Emory University, about the key differences between LNPs and polymers and the importance of in-vivo testing. ➡️ Poster 6 from “Bench to Bedside” by Katrin Wiebe and Simone Carneiro from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München about the Impact of Vibrating Mesh Nebulization on the Physicochemical Properties of mRNA and siRNA LNP Formulations. ➡️ Poster 9 from “Bench to Bedside” by Raneen Aldaqqa from Virginia Commonwealth University regarding the design of mRNA LNP for Tumor Associated Macrophages and Immunotherapies for the Treatment of Osteosarcoma Lung Metastases. Beyond the enriching professional experience, the scenic desert landscape provided the perfect backdrop for some morning walks along the trails and wildlife pictures. The winner of this award is revealed on stage at DDL and presents their work on the podium. Last year Olivia Merkel, (pictured), was bestowed with the award; receiving £1,000 in prize money and presenting the DDL Emerging Scientist Award Lecture based on her work 'What’s in the future of inhaled RNA?'.
