ProteinDistillery is a food-tech start-up which creates a new generation of clean and sustainable proteins for food companies using microorganisms. At ProteinDistillery we rethink a healthy and sustainable protein supply. We believe that it takes new technologies and products that enable the transition from linear to circular value chains to preserve our planet. With our innovative process we can purify proteins from residual yeast of the beer brewing process. Clean and various. Brewer’s yeast proteins are multiply applicable - from neutral-tasting foam for cappucchino to fibrous structure and spicy umami taste for meat substitutes. And all of that without using artificial additives. Healthy and sustainable. Proteins from microorganisms are resource-saving and need less water, energy and farmland than other protein sources in the manufacture. They have a great nutrient profile, which makes their quality comparable to egg protein. With our expertise we help food companies to find a suitable protein source for authentic alternatives to animal products. 👋 Meet Raphael Goehring, ProteinDistillery’s Process Engineer! 👨🎓 What is your background? I have a Bachelor's and Master's in biotechnology. For my degrees' theses, I was working on the topic of biocatalysis with Novartis over the course of nearly 1,5 years. 🔬 What is your day-to-day looking like? Together with my colleagues from the process team, we are working on the optimization of our process to further improve the production of Prew:tein® every day. Additionally, I am organizing the lab maintenance and supporting the production team for our sample production. 🌱 Why did you join ProteinDistillery? I want to contribute to a more sustainable food production. Furthermore, I really like the idea of upcycling brewer's yeast and producing a healthy protein out of it! 🍔 Which has been your favorite Prew:tein® application so far? I have a Bachelor and Master of Science in Business Administration / Management from WHU and NOVA respectively. Since 2020 I've grown extremely fond of the food industry and have been working on food-related topics throughout various experiences including company building and consulting. 🌟 What excites you about your role at ProteinDistillery? I've been a passionate food enthusiast basically all my life, but properly engaged in the industry since 2020. Heaving learned about the mission of ProteinDistillery straight from the founder since mid-2022, I quickly realized how impactful the ingredients market can be and that we have the right tools to truly make a change. I love our diverse teams and that we're all empowered to work on the projects we excel at the most. 🌱 What is your connection with plant-based food? I've been vegetarian for 6 years, and vegan for 4 years now. Thus, I have a strong affinity for any new plant-based products entering the market.
