Meet Natalie and step inside our mobile science lab to be transported to your favorite science class – except this one has robots, digital microscopes, solar panels and much more. As a Curiosity Cube coordinator, Natalie makes science fun, interesting and accessible for students.    As our Merck Life Science Curiosity Cube reaches the halfway point of its 2024 tour, the program has already reached more than 17,500 students across eight countries. That’s thousands more students across the globe that our employee volunteers have helped to better understand important topics in science like sustainability. The safety of our employees is non-negotiable and a top priority for us. We create safety excellence through trainings, risk management and fostering a company-wide safety culture. For us, that means we prioritize a "No Hurt" mindset. A great example is our Atsugi, Japan facility. By creating a culture of safety for all employees, it recently marked 5,000 days without a lost-time injury. Congratulations to the entire team that has actively contributed to the safe work environment.

We have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Afrigen Biologics (Pty) Ltd to advance mRNA vaccine technology. Since the program's inception in 2021, our collaboration has successfully improved mRNA vaccine technology production capabilities. Building off of that mutual success, the MoU will focus on enhancing vaccine manufacturing capacity in the region, working together to foster equitable access to life-saving therapies. To me, that diversity is the real vibrancy. As we collectively celebrated diversity in June, and every month, I’ve been reflecting on how important this vibrancy is. As a leader, advocate, and ally, I am dedicated to championing diversity every day. Our journey towards greater inclusion continues, and I am proud of the strides we’ve made.  It’s a journey we’ll continue to prioritize because diversity enables us to impact health and life with science.

Not all drugs are created equal. Traditional drug tablets are most common, but for children and older adults, they can be difficult to swallow. That's where ODFs or orodispersible films can help. These new drug forms are easier for patients to take because they melt inside the mouth. At our Application Service Lab, scientists like Luna test them with ingredients like excipients and sweeteners to meet the patient's needs. See why she thinks ODFs can be an excellent choice for patients!

These cultures are (inter)stellar! The American Society for Microbiology hosts an annual Agar Art Contest featuring art made with living microorganisms. We sponsored last year's event, showcasing products from our Molsheim, France, and Nantong, China, sites. The “Microbiology in Space” submissions are currently on display at our Molsheim, France site as part of our Agar Art Exhibit.
