We strongly condemn the attack on the Kyiv Children Hospital, which represents another devastating attack on the Ukrainian people. Adding to more than 1,600 instances of heavy weapons attacks impacting medical facilities in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the recent attack causes unspeakable damage to the physical and mental well being of Ukrainian communities. As a network, we wish to express our solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine affected by this attack and will continue to work with our Members and wider network towards the sustainable, climate-neutral and resilient reconstruction of Ukraine.

🏙️ Strengthening Urban Resilience: Highlights from #EURESFO24! This year's European Urban Resilience Forum (EURESFO) in Valencia brought together 450+ participants to tackle the pressing #urbanresilience related challenges facing European cities and regions. Elina Bardram from the European Commission emphasised the necessity of inclusive and participatory processes in addressing climate change: "Collaboration is not merely an option but a necessity. EURESFO is a great opportunity to leverage collective wisdom and drive impactful change towards resilient, sustainable futures for all." Key themes discussed in the Forum included: 🌊 Water resilience and the Blue Economy for economic growth and ocean ecosystem improvement. ✔ Implementing the ambitious goals of the European Green Deal and Adaptation Strategy at local and regional levels. 🏛 Re-thinking governance and financial structures to support resilient, climate-neutral cities. 🤝 Building resilience in fragile settings and bridging the gap between humanitarian response and post-conflict recovery. EURESFO 2024 also marked the official launch of the European Resilience Partnership! This initiative seeks to unify societal, environmental, and economic resilience efforts, fostering collaboration across sectors and governance levels. By enabling such cooperation, the Partnership supports local and regional governments in building resilient communities. EURESFO is a platform for cities and regions to come together, share insights, and commit to a resilient, sustainable future for Europe. Let's keep the momentum going!

🎉 The 2024 edition of the European Urban Resilience Forum (#EURESFO) starts today within the framework of the #Valencia Cities #ClimateWeek, hosted by the city as part of its #EUGreenCapital 2024 celebrations. This collaboration bring together high-level representatives of cities and regions from across #Europe to discuss challenges and opportunities to strengthen #resilience in the context of #sustainable #urban development. Over three days #EURESFO24 will offer 20+ sessions and interactive workshops built around 3 key thematic streams with more than 100 speakers and moderators from European cities and regions, including #ICLEImembers #Burgas (Bulgaria), #Paris (France), #Dresden (Germany), #Athens, #Thessaloniki (Greece), #Rotterdam (The Netherlands), the Green Metropolitan Region of #Arnhem #Nijmegen (Netherlands), #Rome (Italy), #Valongo (Portugal), #Barcelona (Spain), #Valencia (Spain), #Malmö (Sweden), #Izmir (Türkiye), and #Mykolaiv (Ukraine) and #Ostroh (Ukraine), among others. Each of the three key thematic streams, and a fourth special stream, will address crucial aspects of resilience, sustainable development and recovery. 1️⃣ The first stream focuses on multilevel governance, cooperation, and the need for a just transition. 2️⃣ The second stream delves into water resilience and the promotion of the #BlueEconomy within and beyond the Mediterranean region. 3️⃣ The third stream aims to enable transformation towards resilient, adaptive, and climate-neutral cities and regions. 4️⃣ The fourth special stream focuses on building resilience in fragile settings and bridging the gap between humanitarian responses to post-conflict resilience and the recovery process. The fourth stream also underscores the ICLEI Ukraine Roadmap, which is based on consultations with 19 Ukrainian cities to help achieve their sustainability, resilience and recovery targets. The Roadmap supports the shift from siloed investments in emergency response to integrated strategic financing for long-term recovery in alignment with the cities’ Local Green Deals. 📣 Shout out to our conference partners: European Environment Agency, and co-organised with the City of Valencia for the 2024 edition. 🌍 Exciting progress for #sustainable #cities! 🌍 On 18-19 June, the City of #Porto 🇵🇹 hosted the #IntelligentCitiesChallenge (ICC) Implementation Lab conference, bringing representatives from around 60 #ICC core cities, 8 ICC mentor cities, and key #ICLEIMembers like #Aalborg, #Aarhus, #Lisbon, and #Mannheim. The event aimed to: ✅Provide training and coaching on the Local Green Deal (LGD) approach ✅Foster collaboration between political and business leaders in the Mayor-Business Forum to drive #cleantech innovation and support cities' #climateneutrality and sustainable economic growth. Together, we are committed to reigniting #local sustainable competitiveness, regenerating local economies, and creating new opportunities for European businesses and citizens. This vision is captured in the ICC Mayors Business Forum Conclusions, reflecting our joint efforts toward #green and #digital transitions. Kieran McCarthy, Lord Mayor of Cork underlines: “With our city set to grow very significantly over the next generation, we in Cork have equally big ambitions to ensure that this takes place sustainably (...) Just as we are now implementing numerous EU-supported partnership projects on different sustainability themes – including some working directly alongside ICLEI – our membership of the network opens further doors for Cork in terms of connecting and collaborating with like-minded peers to learn from their good practices and innovative approaches. We recently had the pleasure to support a study visit in #ICLEIMember Burgas 🇧🇬, collaborating on its transition towards #sustainability and #climateneutrality. 💚🏙️ The visit was part of the Re-Value Cities partnership, and focused on holistic urban development. Inspired by the New European Bauhaus, Re-Value challenges cities to explore how  #UrbanPlanning and design can support the EU's 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission in beautiful, sustainable and inclusive ways. During the study visit, the participants explored Burgas' plans to sustainably diversify its economy and create new special places for residents and visitors, specifically investigating  the role Nature-based Solutions can play. Our hands-on collaboration with Burgas underscores the importance of transparent, participatory urban planning. Together, we can create cities that are not only climate-neutral but also socially inclusive and economically resilient. This year’s Congress is a journey of reflection and forward-looking vision, emphasising the critical challenges and opportunities facing cities, towns, and regions due to rising global risks and changes. 🌎 In her opening remarks, newly elected ICLEI President, Mayor of Malmö, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, emphasised: "True sustainable urban development must be inclusive and affordable.
