🚀 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻!🌍 The RheinMain Startup Factory has passed the initial competition "Startup Factories" by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, awarded by Robert Habeck to Charlie N. Müller, Harald Holzer, Melissa Ott, representing the project team Michael Huth, Thomas Walther, Stefan Müller-Stach, Volker Mosbrugger, Nils Stieglitz, Michael Fuchs, Guenter Kraft, Martina Pfeifer, Kirstin Schilling, Andres Felipe Macias Futury has joined forces together with Rhein-Main-Universitäten (RMU), Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft to set-up a Startup Factory for the RheinMain region. The RheinMain Startup Factory will initiate, support, and accompany technology-based startups and innovation projects. We aim to transform the region into a hotspot for Greentech, Deeptech, Biotech, and Fintech entrepreneurship initiatives. Leveraging excellent university research and economic strength from our partners, we focus on three clusters: 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲: 🎓 Transfer ideas from universities and research institutions into commercial business ideas. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲: 🚀 Support and accelerate initial ideas into start-ups and scale-ups. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲: 💼 Provide venture capital and access to industry partners to scale young businesses. "Sporthilfe Start-up des Jahres": Hannes Aigner und Elena Aigner mit Wichtelbox 🎉 Der Weltklasse-Kanute Hannes Aigner und seine Ehefrau Elena haben die diesjährige Start-up Academy von Sporthilfe und Werte-Stiftung gewonnen und erhalten damit die DKB | Deutsche Kreditbank AG-Gründerprämie in Höhe von 12.000 Euro - herzlichen Glückwunsch! 💪 Nach der öffentlichen Online-Wahl konnte sich der dreifache Weltmeister im Kanu-Slalom im Pitch vor einer Experten-Jury gegen fünf weitere Ideen von Sporthilfe-geförderten Athleten durchsetzen. Sein Start-up “Wichtelbox” ist eine DIY-Bastelbox für leuchtende Kinderaugen in der Weihnachtszeit, die 28 kreative Aktivitäten für Kinder bereithält und Eltern stressfreies Wichteln ermöglicht. „Es ist für uns eine ganz emotionale Sache und eine riesige Freude, mit unserem Start-up so viele Kinder in der Weihnachtszeit glücklich zu machen,” sagt Hannes Aigner.   Conrad Peto-Madew von Futury und Alexey Samkov haben die Start Ups in der Vorbereitung unterstützt und bei wichtigen Entscheidungen für den Pitch geholfen.   Die Start-up Academy ist ein Förderbaustein von Sporthilfe und Werte-Stiftung und wird seit 2018 angeboten. Jährlich werden bis zu 20 Athleten auf dem Weg zur Start-up-Gründung unterstützt. Continuing our Founders Diary series – today, Rob Hughes, Co-Founder of SCALIZE, shares insights into his daily life as a founder. “Hey Futury Community, I’m Robert, Co-Founder of SCALIZE. Happy to connect with you and share how we’ve been spending our time these past months! One highlight from last month: Two large FMCG companies are using our assortment analysis tool to analyze tens of thousands of articles. This has helped them improve palletization and identify minor adjustments to shipping boxes, significantly reducing transport emissions and costs. What skill was crucial for achieving these successes? Dedicating as much time as possible to support users and enhance features for seamless data analysis. Being a founder has its ups and downs, with my co-founder Jan Mammen and I both becoming fathers in the last few months, resulting in a lot of late nights, and for our clients the big challenge has been collecting internal data. How did we tackle this? We assisted in extracting shipper dimensions and identifying errors in their data export. Additionally, we introduced a new duplicate analysis feature to optimize clustering and harmonize shippers. My Learnings: Both startups and clients should invest time to review problems, tools, and processes. Address their priority problems with your solution and develop the partnership from there. We’re in an exciting phase, receiving client feedback about their internal rollout of SCALIZE, prioritizing new use cases, and planning our support throughout 2024. 🌍 Packaging waste in Germany: a look at the facts & challenges  An impressive 8.3 million tons of packaging waste are generated in Germany every year, of which product packaging (28%), mail order (11%) and, above all, transport packaging (46%) make up a significant proportion. Transport packaging made of paper, cardboard and carton (PPK) is a particular focus here. The planned reusable target quotas for transport packaging, with special exceptions for cardboard boxes, are at the center of the discussion. According to a NABU study, PPK transport packaging alone accounted for 3.8 million tons or 20% of all packaging waste in 2021. The focus is equally on environmentally friendly approaches and challenges: ✅ Environmental concerns: the consumption of paper and cardboard poses environmental challenges, both in terms of production and recycling. ✅ Innovative solutions: Substituting disposable cardboard boxes with reusable plastic crates in the transportation sector could lead to significant savings in wood, water and energy.   EU Commission position: Even heavier reusable plastic packaging could have a positive impact on waste reduction despite its weight compared to disposable packaging.   Impulses for possible system changes are discussed in the trend radar:  🔄 Discussion and stricter rules: The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that the mere theoretical refillability is not sufficient for packaging to be considered reusable.  🔄 Momentum through government funding: The introduction of government funding for reusable systems, financed by charges on disposable packaging (similar to the Plastic Fund Act in Germany), could promote an accelerated system change.
