⚒️ What does successful #PostMining land use look like? 👉 DMT expert Herman Cornelissen shares best practice examples from #SouthAfrica.   Completing diving trainings where valuable raw materials were once extracted from a #mine? Or using closed mines as mushroom farms? There are many creative ways to utilise the land after the closure of a mine. DMT Geotechnics at #Eurock2024 in Alicante, Spain A detailed #geotechnical study was conducted at an iron ore deposit in Uzbekistan for mineral resource and reserve estimation and mine planning. This investigation included drilling and sampling, testing, geophysical well logging and analysis of geotechnical and structural data. The evaluation of the data and effects on rock slope stability will be presented at the #ISRM European Rock Mechanics Symposium on new challenges in rock mechanics and rock engineering. Wie Tiefengeothermie die Wärmewende in NRW nachhaltig vorantreibt Wussten Sie, dass in Nordrhein-Westfalen immer noch rund 90% der #Wärmeenergie aus fossilen Brennstoffen stammt? Dabei bietet die tiefe #Geothermie eine sichere und nachhaltige Alternative. In kleineren, weniger dicht besiedelten Gemeinden kann sie zwischen 50 bis 90% der Wärmeenergie liefern. Dies reduziert nicht nur den CO2-Ausstoß erheblich, sondern verringert auch die Abhängigkeit von traditionellen #Energiequellen. Das hat auch die Landesregierung in #NRW erkannt und plant, dass tiefe Geothermie bis zu 20 % des Wärmebedarfs von NRW bereitstellen soll. Um das große #geothermische Potenzial in NRW zu nutzen, ist eine gezielte Herangehensweise nötig, bei der Generalplaner und -unternehmer wie DMT fachmännisch unterstützen können – von der Projektierung und den Antragsverfahren über die Standorterkundung und die Bohrungen bis hin zum Anlagenbau und zur Inbetriebnahme der Heizwerke. Our Journey into the Future of Energy: Recap of EAGE 2024 in Oslo, Norway and Save the Date for EAGE 2025 in Toulouse, France!   After a fantastic week, the EAGE Annual Conference has come to an end. Looking back, we are happy to share with you that our journey into the future of energy at #EAGE was a success. Throughout the week, our experts Beatrix Eckhard, Carlos García Piña-Pina, Dr. Dirk Orlowsky, Dragan Susac, Fabian Althans, Fabian Gebhardt, Franco Rost, Jens Schweitzer, Lena Schweizer, Mohamed Eldeeb, Olaf Brenner, Ruediger Misiek, Thorsten Mueller, Urs Ruf, Volker Schäpe and Wolfram Gödde had the opportunity to connect and socialise with all industry professionals and share valuable insights.   During our Vibrotruck Challenge, many participants had the opportunity to feel like a vibrotruck driver for once - at least on a small scale - while enjoying steering our remote-controlled brick vibrotruck around the course.   One of the highlights was the conference evening that took place at Bygdøy Museum Island. Our colleagues Fabian Althans, Franco Rost and Lena Schweizer took advantage of the opportunity to immerse themselves in Norwegian history and maritime heritage at the Kon-Tiki Museum, The Fram Museum and the Maritime Museum, rounding off the evening in a delightful atmosphere. Quick look back: Addressing advanced geophysical technologies in Geoscience at #AAPG 2024 in Krakow, Poland   Reflecting on two insightful days exploring the energy transition in geoscience, we are happy for the opportunity to participate in the Europe Regional Conference 2024! One of the highlights was the presentation of Mohamed Eldeeb from DMT Petrologic GmbH on “Data enhancement using advanced CRS on complex data from the Carpathians”, which provided valuable insights for all participants.   Our DMT experts Franco Rost, Lena Schweizer, Mohamed Eldeeb enjoyed the exchange with so many other experts about relevant topics in the areas of advanced technologies, exploration, geophysics, geothermal energy, geology, energy transition and the history of geosciences. And of course, they had the pleasure to experience the beautiful city Krakow as wonderful host for conferences like #AAGP’s Europe Regional Conference.   We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizers of the Europe Regional Conference and to all the participants for contributing to this enriching exchange of ideas. Valuable Exchange on Decarbonising Steel Making at the International Conference on Steel (#ICONS 2024) DMT’s expert in Industrial Engineering Dr. Frank Sowa joined the two-day ICONS 2024 in Ranchi, India, organized by MECON Limited, India and under the aegis of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. As one of the most important events in India’s steel industry, the conference gathered experts and leading stakeholders from the steel industry, including technology providers, steel producers, manufacturers, and academia. As ICONS 2024 aims to explore innovative solutions and advance India’s steel industry growth and future, sustainability topics become more and more important – a segment Dr. Frank Sowa was able to enrich with his presentation on „Decarbonising steel making by utilization of deeply cleaned coke oven gas“. As the steel industry worldwide is looking for solutions to minimize its CO2 emissions that contribute to climate change, DMT is offering a changeover technology that utilises coke oven gas and its high percentage of hydrogen. Because deeply cleaned coke oven gas can serve as a reduction agent in the blast furnace and thus replace the injection of natural gas or coal fines. This technology is already used in Germany and reduces CO2 emissions and costs for the operators as well.
