As a spin-off of the University of Stuttgart, Cyclize has developed a technology for defossilizing the chemical industry using mixed plastic waste and CO2 as feedstock to produce syngas (a gas mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen). This syngas serves as the basic building block of advanced chemicals and is used to produce plastics, methanol, hydrogen, and e-fuels. As of now, syngas is still obtained through the linear use of fossil resources such as natural gas. Our innovative plasma-based process allows us to replace fossil resources with waste materials, thus enabling the carbon circular economy and avoiding hundreds of megatons of CO2 annually by 2050.

Cyclize, a spin-off from the University of Stuttgart, has developed a technology to defossilize the chemical industry by using mixed plastic waste and CO2 as raw materials to produce synthesis gas, a fundamental building block for advanced chemicals that is used in making plastics, methanol, foams, adhesives, paints, hydrogen, and e-fuels. #Syngas – a market worth over $60 billion globally – is currently made with fossil resources such as natural gas or coal. Cyclize’s plasma technology allows the reforming of waste #plastics into a green type of syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which can ultimately be used to create new products, says CEO and Co-founder Maike Lambarth. This approach has the potential to mitigate #CO2 emissions as well as plastic waste pollution, she says, as the plastic used is what is normally burned in incinerators. Depending on the desired product, the company’s process can be carbon negative by using carbon dioxide as feedstock, helping companies reach emission goals. https://lnkd.in/eGDf83QZ

This week, our Co-Founder & COO Jan had the pleasure of visiting a talk with the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Dr. Robert Habeck on "Germany's path to a startup nation"! The event was organized by UnternehmerTUM and took place at the Munich Urban Colab. In his speech, Dr. Robert Habeck highlighted the importance of startups and their innovations for solving today´s challenges. Given the fact that funding in startups has been declining by 58 % since 2021, the support of ecosystems such as UnternehmerTUM are the key enabler for current and future startup success stories. The time is now to establish Germany worldwide as the driver of innovation. In this ongoing difficult environment for startups to raise capital, we at Cyclize are proud to have convinced strong investors to join our mission to defossilize the chemical industry.
