We're excited that our #TeamCAIS is presenting on interdisciplinary collaboration and the narratives and impacts of artificial intelligence: https://lnkd.in/eWUdj5rh Hendrik Heuer are organizing a panel exploring the socio-technical changes AI brings to work: "Digital Ghost Work: Human Presences in AI Transformations." They critically examine hidden labor and the profound impacts of AI advancements. Josephine Schmitt and Silvio Suckow (Weizenbaum-Institut) are organizing a panel: "Research In and About Interdisciplinary Fields - New Needs for Organizing, Practicing, and Evaluating Science?!" Another Interdisciplinary research spotlight: Silvio Suckow and Josephine Schmitt are developing a scale to assess the quality of collaboration in digitization research, with input from CAIS, Weizenbaum-Institut and Bayerisches Forschungsinstitut für Digitale Transformation. Samuel T. Simon shares insights from an interview study with researchers and practitioners: "Facilitating Interdisciplinary Research - A New Organizing Role to Address Emerging Needs in Interdisciplinary Fields." Last but not least: In her talk "Orange Walls, 'Hollywood AI,' and a Robot Vacuum Cleaner: Exhibiting Artificial Intelligence in German Museums," Alicia Maksimova explores how AI is showcased and interpreted in museums. How can research on digital transformation proactively identify and investigate future challenges and opportunities arising from digitalization? 💻 Our Fellows and researchers participated today in a workshop called "Anticipating the Future of Digitalization." This forward-thinking session explored how we can better inform discourse and research on digital transformation in the coming years. 🚀We kicked off with a thought-provoking presentation on forecasting methods by Jan Berger, CEO of Themis Foresight. Following this, we dived into collaborative brainstorming to pinpoint future information needs in digitalization research. Our mission? To prototype groundbreaking communication formats that disseminate cutting-edge insights and to develop "Thing X" - a pioneering product designed to deliver timely, valuable information on digital transformation research. Thanks to Samuel T. Simon, Josephine Schmitt, and Marco Wähner for their creative approach in designing this innovative workshop! 👏

💡 Neugierig geworden? 📯 New (open access) article out now on algorithmic censorship, springing from this amazing group of people* In this contribution, Gabriel Ernesto Melian Pérez and I propose a new approach to empower creatives who are unjustly censored on social media. ⛈ The issue: - Algorithmic censorship unjustly punishes many artists and other image creators -This can lead to a loss of livelihood and hampers creativity: fear leads to self-censorship -Current legal approaches often take the public law route, which has limitations ☂ Our proposed solution -Contract law may be an under-explored avenue that can protect creatives better -We also push for more nuanced and complex legal decisions -Hopefully this will help creatives to have more agency over the images they post online The article comes out of the Taste of the Algorithm project, which I founded a year ago with funding from Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) gGmbH. It brings together a wide variety of experts, such as computer scientists, artists and media scholars, to tackle algorithmic censorship. *Not in this photo: Gloria González Fuster, Prof. Dr. Ömer Alkin, Elle Farrell-Kingsley, Piera Riccio, Pierre-Héli Monot and Lina Pranaityte.
