So what is the cost of a wrong decision...? I had the absolute privilege of being able to answer precisely that question on stage during the #2050Accelerator showcase last Wednesday! Ecosystems are at constant and increasingly pressing risk of extinction, and the tools for making the right decisions are lacking. 🚨 Verified Carbon Standard Version 4.5 Last night, Verra published the newest version of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). I will give you detailed insights of what changed in the coming days. But let's talk about the biggest announcement. There are two new market labels 🏷️ for VCUs to increase transparency in the market. 🌳🏭 Mitigation outcome type: The label is showing whether the VCU is based on GHG emission reduction or removal of CO2. Projects using methodologies that result exclusively in either reduction VCUs or removal VCUs will be able to add the respective labels to their VCUs. Registry updates to enable labeling of projects that have a mix of reductions and removals are under development. 📄 Article 6 label: This is a huge step forward. This label identifies VCUs that have been authorized by host countries for use under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Therefore, it is showing if corresponding adjustments have been applied. This targets false compensation claims by companies in an effort to avoid double counting. We will give you specific guidance for this label and how to use it in a later post. In September I will be back in Ireland! 🇮🇪 I am looking forward to work with Coillte and Dogpatch Labs as part of the #2050accelerator on one of Ireland's biggest challenges. The country targets to increase it's forest area from currently 11% to 18%. CarbonStack supports the initiative and will help to analyse potential forest sites to increase carbon sequestration and resilience of the areas. Ireland is on a great path towards carbon neutrality with huge offshore-energy potential and a massive increase in forest biomass.
