Ever since our founding by the brothers Clemens and August in 1841, C&A has been at the forefront of fashion. From making 'ready-to-wear' a thing when custom-made was the norm, to popularising miniskirts in the 60s, introducing the Com-bi-kini in the 70s, Bio Cotton in early 2000 and the first Cradle-to-Cradle Gold certified garment (www.c-a.com/c2c) in 2017 - we have always evolved with the times, making stylish and quality clothes possible for everyone.     The C&A BV Supervisory Board announces that Giny Boer is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of C&A Europe to focus on a portfolio career. “We are grateful to Giny for bringing her energy, vision and 25 years of retail expertise to the transformation of C&A. Any transformation on this scale is challenging, but to lead that coming out of the pandemic and at a time of extraordinary change for fashion retail deserves special credit. We thank Giny for her dedicated service, her great commitment to the brand and the company, her lasting achievements and valuable contribution and wish her every success for what comes next.”, says Allan Leighton, Chairman of C&A BV Supervisory Board. Giny Boer states: “It was a true privilege for me to work for this iconic brand C&A. I am proud that together with the teams I strengthened the image of C&A through modernization. We did this while staying true to the DNA of high-quality and affordable fashion, produced in a sustainable way.     Have you ever noticed that the buttons are traditionally on the right-hand side on men’s shirts and on the left on women’s shirts? 🕵️♀️ That practice was established in the 16th century since most people are right-handed.   Many men wore their swords or other guns on the left-hand side to be able to react quickly when attacked. To make sure that they won’t get caught in the buttons in a fight, the buttons were placed on the right. Another practical side effect: Since gloves were not yet used at that time, men could also warm their right hand by putting it between two buttons of their shirt.   🔎 And for women? The most common explanation, why it was more practical to place buttons on the left-hand side: In the very beginnings only women from the upper class could afford to buy pieces with buttons and most of them were dressed by their maids. Putting the buttons on the left made it easier for them to button up the lady’s blouses and skirts. 🔎 And today?   The practice has lasted until today for many brands, also with us at C&A. What has significantly changed: It doesn’t matter if you want to buy your shirt in the men’s or the women’s section. Where is that tradition coming from? 🤔 Was it to differentiate men’s from women’s shirts more easily? Or to react faster when they were attacked? Or because it was considered more stylish?     We are excited to share an update on our store modernization journey: We are close to finalizing the CI update of all 1,300 stores across Europe and are now entering the next phase. 🥳 All our stores now shine in a completely freshened & harmonized modern look & feel with the most consistent branding in the history of C&A. We want to introduce Volker Dick, Head of Store Concept Experience at C&A. Together with his team he drives the modernization of our store concepts: “We are consumer-obsessed – everything we do starts & ends with them. Our key question is: What do we need to do to attract customers, to create the modern store that our teams love to welcome customers into, and where we provide the best shopping experience? That is what is driving all our upcoming developments. I have enjoyed working with C&A for ten years because I believe we are the only brand that truly is for the entire family. And I love building on that strength - together with a team that is so involved and shares my passion for delivering great stores.     HELLO PLAISIR! 🤩 Today we are celebrating our new store in Paris – the first store opening in 11 years in France, which marks the beginning of our growth plan in the country! In the Mon Grand Plaisir shopping center, located in the premier shopping area in the western Paris region, customers can now shop in an inspiring environment in line with the modernized C&A store concept. We analyzed and we listened to our customers’ needs and thus decided to focus on the women’s and kid’s range. The team has done a fantastic job to create the best shopping experience! Nadia Bothorel, Managing Director of C&A France, comments: "It is an honor for me to lead C&A in France at such a significant moment in its history. This is the first store to open in 11 years. It shows a brand that is modernizing and proud to offer its customers increasingly fashionable, high-quality products.
