A few years ago, I was part of a big corporation known for its enviable work-life balance. Despite this, I found myself struggling with burnout. But surprisingly, it wasn’t due to overworking. I felt drained because I wasn't tapping into my full potential, leaving my abilities unchallenged and my purpose unclear. Fast forward to the past six months—I've been working 12-hour days, seven days a week, with no vacations in sight. It sounds grueling, but I’ve never felt more alive and fulfilled. So, what changed? It turns out, burnout doesn’t comes only from hard work. It comes from a mismatch between our capabilities and our tasks, from not being sufficiently challenged, and from not seeing the value in what we do. Work can be physically demanding, but if it aligns with our passions and challenges us adequately, it can actually fuel us. Engagement, purpose, and meaningful challenges have turned my exhaustive days into the most exhilarating period of my professional life. Let’s shift the narrative around burnout. It's not just about reducing hours but finding what truly engages and challenges us. Redefine what hard work means to you, embrace challenges, and seek engagement.
