On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hey all! I'm Catija. I've been here for three years and I'm nominating myself for a moderation position.

I'm currently a pro-tem moderator on two sites, Interpersonal Skills and Arts & Crafts so I'm familiar with moderation and would be happy to help out the current moderators, who I think are doing a great job here.

I spend a lot of time in The Frying Pan (chat) and am one of the more active recent Cooking Meta users. I'm also very active on Meta Stack Exchange and understanding how this network works is something I really enjoy.

Hello everyone. I'm Cindy and I'm nominating myself as a candidate in the Moderator Election.

I have been an active participant on Seasoned Advice since first visiting in August 2014. I have learned a great deal about the site and truly appreciate our Q & A format. I regularly visit our chat room, The Frying Pan, and have gotten to know some of the regulars there quite well.

Today I probably spend as much time reviewing posts, flagging posts, editing, and commenting as I do asking or answering questions. I'm hopeful that my actions help the site run smooth.

I believe that moderators should be fair and impartial, as well as have patience and a gentle temperament. They should also be able to handle conflict in the nicest way possible, while still preserving the integrity of the site.

I also realize that there is a learning curve and I have the time and ability to go the distance. I would like up my game and participate more in moderation activities and spend more time on Meta, helping to shape the site.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask me in the election chat room. I will be posting answers to the moderator election questions soon.

I’m Stephie and I hereby nominate myself as a candidate for the 2018 Moderator Election.

When I wrote my first answer on October 24th 2014, I had no idea what a few answers would turn into and that now I visit the site daily. I came for the Q&As and stayed for the company. Gradually my focus shifted towards the mechanics of the site and now I spend more time working the review queue and commenting than actually answering.

I believe in an empowered community, gentle guidance over giving orders and Hanlon’s razor. My goal is to ensure that everyone with an interest in cooking can benefit and contribute.

You can find my answers on the 2018 Election Questionnaire here and I’m looking forward to your comments and additional questions in the Election Chat.

This election is over.
