Welcome to the Wikimedia Commons.
The goal of this project is to provide a central repository for free images, music and, possibly, texts and spoken texts, to be used by all Wikimedia projects.
The Commons was launched on 7 September 2004. Help with planning the project is very welcome.

The content
If you have a large number of files to upload, we recommend you compress them into one big zip file and then upload that. Some time in the next few days, a script will be written to decompress zip files on the server side. Please make sure you use appropriate file names inside the archives. Please note that uploads are limited to 5 MB. Bigger files are dropped and can't be uploaded.
