This does what I want it to do.

Objective
Have 1 point of contact for laptop, other than power cord, for all devices. One disconnect when we go mobile.
100% achieved with this reasonably-priced unit.
Extend to two other screens; an old Dell fpd2009 (HDMI to DVI) and a newer 32" LG (HDMI to HDMI). LG is shared between work computer, gaming Wintel and mbp.
RJ45 connect.
2 external drives: one a usb C and other an A.
Wired keyboard (A or C; currently A), Jelly Comb trackball (wireless A), fan.
2 generic dongles: 4*A, other has 3*A and 1 C, SD, HDMI.
This has been hooked up for an hour; if something fails, I most certainly will return to this review.

Does a lot more than what I expected and is probably going to help simplify my setup
I selected this hub intending to use it for travel. The more I used it and added peripherals, the more I realized it could replace my desktop set up.The series of photos shows how I used it on a table with only a couple of SSD disc drives connected, both are 2TB drives. The internal SSD is a 256GB. The speed tests are done with only one of the external drives. The first test is plugged into a 5Gbps port. The second is a 10Gbps port and the 3rd is the internal drive. I later added a portable monitor connected to the HDMI port.It works wonderfully. I think I will be able to replace the mess you see in the final photo with this hub. The big gain will be simplicity. But I will have to make compromises: can I get by without T4 connections and can I live with fewer always-connected peripherals. I think the answer to both is yes. If I go ahead and I'm wrong, I can always use the Satechi hub for travel as I originally planned and so back to my messy desk setup. I will also need to have fewer always-connected peripherals.Since starting this review I have used what you see on the table for all of my computing tasks without real problems other than I think I will continue to use an external keyboard with 10key pad. I've also replaced the 256Gb SSD with a 2TB - that lets me drop one more external hard drive from my standard configuration.So now you may be asking why 4 stars? Two factors - the lack of T4 capability (though I wouldn't expect it at the price for this hub) and the hub doesn't stay in place on my table and the Macbook slides on the friction strip meant to hold it in place.
