Excited to share our latest article on the application of Near-Infrared (NIR) in the Inspection and End-Point Control of the Fluid Bed Drying Process in Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) manufacturing. 🚀 Fluid Bed Drying Overview: Fluid bed drying is crucial for drying solid granules after wet milling, preventing caking, and ensuring efficient subsequent operations. Key factors such as inlet air temperature, humidity, and air flow rate influence the process, making real-time moisture content monitoring essential for maintaining product quality. NIR Technology for Moisture Monitoring: NIR spectroscopy offers a non-intrusive, non-destructive method for real-time moisture content monitoring, allowing for precise determination of the drying endpoint. Our Study: In our experiment, metformin hydrochloride, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, and polyvidone were used for high shear wet granulation, wet milling, and fluid bed drying. Four batches of samples were analyzed to develop a quantitative model correlating NIR spectra with moisture content measured by a rapid moisture meter. Data Analysis: Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) revealed consistent drying trends across batches, effectively reflecting moisture content changes. The strong correlation between moisture content and spectral absorbance confirms the feasibility of online moisture content inspection.
