🎉 Congratulations to Ivana Gantar, Marie Darche, Audrey Tissot and the entire ALICe Team, for their outstanding achievement at the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF Image Competition 2024! Their video “Looking into the eye”, captured by our Lightsheet microscope at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering, received the jury distinction in the video loop category. 🏅 📽 This mesmerizing video offers an up-close exploration of the frontal part of the human eye, revealing its intricate details. Cyan highlights the endothelial cells lining the extensive vascular network, while magenta emphasizes the actin proteins forming muscle filaments. 🔬 Enabled by our custom mesoSPIM lightsheet microscope, this groundbreaking imaging technique allows us to delve into the labyrinthine network of vessels and innervation at cellular resolution, preserving the 3D spatial complexity of the entire organ. Achieving this required specialized tissue processing to render it transparent and label it with fluorescent antibodies, unveiling its detailed structures. 🔍 👁 This video presents a highly detailed representation of the circulatory system in the frontal part of the eye, offering invaluable insights for ophthalmologists to deepen their understanding of human eye anatomy and ocular pathologies. 👨⚕️ 🔬 More about our Advanced Lightsheet Imaging Center (ALICe) platform: https://lnkd.in/ejKF77Z5 📸 The winning images will be featured at the Festival of Photography in Biel/Bienne from May 3rd to May 26th 2024.
