Studio Vulkan Landschaftsarchitektur

Open spaces are under increasing pressure from many sides. Studio Vulkan seeks to understand these multiple demands and the contradictions that arise from different expectations. Designing landscapes means accepting and moderating these contradictions and using the resulting tension to develop new solutions. We create strategic and experimental design languages that innovatively and clearly interpret the site and its users. We aim to produce designs that are conceptually strong and pragmatic, exploring the potential of a landscape in a direct, dynamic and playful way. We study landscapes at both large and small scales, considering their physical, social, atmospheric and experiential contexts. In addition to our day-to-day professional responsibilities, our wide range of projects allows us to explore questions and answers essential to advancing contemporary discourse. We aim to create landscape architecture that enhances human sensitivity, meaning and responsibility towards our natural and built environments. Our approach reflects the international and interdisciplinary expertise of our four partners, whose backgrounds span landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning, and art, blending traditions from Switzerland, Germany, and the United States. Founded in 2014, Studio Vulkan is located on Vulkanstrasse in Zurich and is the result of the merger of Schweingruber Zulauf Landscape Architects and Robin Winogrond Landscape Architects. The Munich office opened in 2016, expanding the practice internationally. Today, the Studio Vulkan landscape architecture team in Zurich and Munich consists of approximately 45 people of 10 nationalities. Lukas Schweingruber, Dominik Bueckers, Florian Strauss, Ursa Habic and Christoph Abt lead the office operationally and strategically.
