Lively teambuilding event in Naples under the sign of a new chapter: This year’s offsite of MET Group’s Green Assets division marked a significant milestone as it was the first time for many colleagues to meet Clive Turton in person, who started as Executive Chairman of the division on June 1. In his presentation to the team, Clive outlined his ambitious vision for MET Group’s renewable energy business, and his clear goals for the future had everyone excited about the direction the team is heading in. Later, in highly productive workshops and breakout sessions, colleagues focused on market analysis and business development topics, fostering creative solutions and strategic plans to address the opportunities in the European renewable energy sector. The teambuilding event was rounded off with a guided tour of Naples’ rich history and vibrant culture, and the highlight of the casual program – a hands-on pizza workshop where the team learned the art of preparing traditional Neapolitan pizza dough and tasted the homemade pizzas to experience first-hand the flavors that make Naples so famous.

After the European Football Championships, which ended yesterday with Spain's victory in Berlin, the eyes of the sporting world will next turn to Paris: among the thousands of athletes who will soon be traveling to the French capital will be Nils Stump OLY, the first Swiss ever to win a world championship title in judo in 2023. MET Romania continues its long-standing partnership with the NGO Teach for Romania in the city of Iasi, during the Concord Iasi Open tennis tournament powered by MET. On this occasion, MET Group’s Romanian team was happy to create a special experience for 32 students from Oțeleni School, who watched a professional tennis match for the first time. At the tennis stadium in Iasi, the children received personalized gifts and introductory books about tennis, designed to further spark their interest in the sport, each of them already being a "champion in the making". To find out more about tennis, the students had the opportunity to talk to Alexandra Dulgheru, one of Romania's best-known tennis players. She shared her experiences with the kids and signed the books they received. The initiative reinforces MET Romania's commitment to supporting education and providing opportunities for young people from disadvantaged communities. MET is happy to contribute to the educational and personal development of children and continue the long-standing collaboration with Teach for Romania.

Women working as engineers are still considered a rarity in many places - not so at MET Group: Paula Oliver, Operations Director at MET Energía España, tells the Spanish online media platform Artículo 14 about her career.   For Paula, it was always clear what she wanted to be: “From a young age, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career related to science.” The decision clearly paid off, says Paula: “Engineering allows full professional development, as it is highly valued in the professional environment and has many opportunities. It is possible to generate a real and tangible impact on society. And it allows to provide new and creative solutions. And, of course, surrounding yourself with intelligent teams and people.”   Would she take the same path again and advise other women to do the same? “Definitely. I encourage all women to study engineering and STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), which have numerous applications in a wide variety of fields and are essential for achieving significant advancements in many different areas.”

The flow of Russian natural gas into the EU slowed significantly, while more and more fertilizer is being imported from the country. As a result, European fertilizer production is facing major challenges.   Benjamin Lakatos, Chairman & CEO of MET Group, explained in a Financial Times article written by gas market reporter Shotaro Tani: “The crisis years for the European fertilizer industry are coming. With 70 to 80 per cent of the running cost of a fertiliser company coming from natural gas, the fertilizer industry would be affected more quickly than other sectors by rising gas and energy costs”. Big step for MET Group’s growing #LNG business and security of supply in #Europe: With Shell, we have entered into a long-term FOB (Free-On-Board) LNG purchase agreement. Under the 10-year contract, Shell will supply MET with LNG from the Gulf of Mexico. Thus, MET Group is able to further diversify its LNG supply portfolio, helping to ensure security of supply for its customers across Europe, ranging from its own gas-fired power plant demand to energy-intensive industrial companies and SMEs and households in many countries. 

How to position the CEE region as a hub of sustainability, innovation, and economic dynamism? This was one of the key topics at Green Transition 2024, Central and Eastern Europe’s most influential platform for discussing the European Green Deal. The annual conference, organized in Sofia by DIR.BG and 3E-news.net, brought together leaders who catalyse the net-zero transformation of economies. Participating at the panel discussion ‘Energy transformation – balanced and sustainable energy mix’, MET Bulgaria’s Head of Gas Trading and Operations, Peter Fildishev warned: “With the development of renewable capacities, the production is decentralized, the distance between production and consumption is shortened. However, it also leads to increased discrepancy (imbalances) between production and consumption, and therefore to increased losses. Even when this is compensated by energy storage, a part of the energy is lost because of the additional conversions.”

🚀 What an exciting workshop we had with Generation Z – on personal and company values. We hosted the workshop at MET Group’s Budapest office, facilitated by the amazing NGO Konnekt Egyesület, a pioneer in supporting Generation Z for nearly a decade. With around 20 participants, some of our youngest colleagues, the session was a deep dive into the values that matter most to GenZ. 👉 Key takeaways: stability, reliability, and happiness emerged as the most important personal values, with stability being of paramount importance. In a world marked by instability, Generation Z craves for security and predictability. Participants confirmed that values only resonate when they are linked to personal stories. 💡 The transition to #renewables in Spain is not only advancing at large production, distribution and trading companies, but there is also a small-scale formula gaining ground: #energycommunities. To promote responsible behaviours, as pointed out by the article in El Confidencial, MET Group held a roundtable discussion entitled “The role of energy communities in the transition towards sustainable consumption”. Participants included Angel Crespo, CEO of MET Energía España; Alberto Pérez Aparicio, Power Director of MET Energía España; and Carlos Pesqué, Deputy Director of Energy and People at leading non-profit association ECODES (Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo). 👉 The panel of experts was complemented by the winners of the #GreenCommYOUnityAwards: Encarnación Molina, president of the energy community of Arroyo Alumbra; and Bernat Ladrón de Guevara, president of the energy community of Manresa Illumina.
