In recent years, we have made a strategic shift towards advancing the energy transition to more sustainable energy, and have invested in a range of projects from renewables and biofuels, to technology metals and electric vehicle infrastructure, and environmental and carbon management products. We have also launched and support several ESG-focused initiatives, such as a program to improve the health and wellbeing of Earth’s oceans in partnership with Hub Ocean. Today, Mercuria is one of the world's leading independent energy and commodity trading companies. Earlier this week, two incredible ocean and polar science expeditions set sail and we are proud sponsor of both of them. It's important to gain a better understanding of the impact of climate change on the polar regions. Acting like an early warning system, they are crucial to regulating the planet's climate. They are especially sensitive to increasing temperatures that causes ice to melt, contributing to rising sea levels, disrupting ocean currents, and threatening the species that live in these ecosystems. These two voyages aim to study the changes happening in the Arctic to gain valuable insights into the current situation and what might happen if we don't take action. 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞: The Forel is a unique 28-metre motorized sailboat science platform devoted to coastal oceanographic research in the polar and sub-polar regions. It departed from Lorient, France to embark on its first expedition to Greenland to gather knowledge about the environmental changes impacting the Arctic. With its onboard laboratories and experienced crew and scientists, it will study first hand the significant threat of climate change on this crucial region and the insights gained will also help to advocate for these fragile ecosystems. ▶ See their progress and delve deeper into their research on their website - 𝑤𝑤𝑤.𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑙-ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒.𝑜𝑟𝑔/ - and follow them on Instagram (@forel_heritage). 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: This ground-breaking arctic expedition is following in the footsteps of Roald Amundsen, aiming to traverse the Northwest Passage through the Arctic Ocean. They will travel through 6 of the Global Tipping Points collecting crucial data on the impact of climate change on this vulnerable region. Departing from Bergen, Norway, the crew are sailing the 75-foot steel-hulled Bermuda Schooner called the Abel Tasman, specifically designed for exploration and research missions. In addition to the scientists onboard carrying out vital research, the team comprises award-winning filmmakers and sound designers to capture every detail of the journey, paragliders and divers to get a closer look at the environment from above and below the surface, and storytellers to share the expedition's discoveries and raise awareness of the challenges facing the Arctic. ▶ Visit their website - ℎ𝑡𝑡𝑝𝑠://𝑤𝑤𝑤.𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛.𝑐𝑜𝑚/ - to learn more about this incredible journey and the vital scientific discoveries they're aiming to make. Follow their progress on LinkedIn (Ocean Science Expedition) and Instagram (@oceanscienceexpedition). These expeditions are pushing the boundaries of oceanographic and polar science, and we're privileged to be able to support their ground-breaking efforts. Stay tuned for updates as they explore the vast unknowns of our planet's oceans as we share details of their progress and insights. #oceanscience #polarexpedition #STEM #exploration #research #sustainability

Very exciting to see this expedition set sail. Their journey through the 6 Arctic tipping points is so critically important to both collect information on the impact of climate change and to raise awareness, that we are happy to be sponsoring it. We'll be closely following their progress on LinkedIn and via their website (https://lnkd.in/e_BQYGxY) and hope that you will as well. Bon voyage! #oceanscienceexpedition

And we're off ⛵️... The journey to the Northwest Passage has begun, and the Abel Tasman and her crew are now on her way to Iceland ❄️ across the North Atlantic ocean. The past few days have been full of final preparations - hoisting flags, scubbing the hull 🤿, packing up sails, and storing enough supplies 🥫 to sustain the crew for the next few months... And squeezing in a few interviews 🎥. As we head towards Iceland 🇮🇸, you'll be hearing all about why this mission is so important from each of the crew. Stay tuned! A huge thank you to our sponsor Mercuria, who came to wave us farewell, as well as our fantastic supporters and partners 🙏🏼. 📷 Photos by Rebecca Daniel, MSQ/Sustain. #OceanScienceExpedition #AbelTasmanYacht #Expedition #Adventure #Sailing #MarineScience #OceanScience #Arctic

We are proud to share that the co-founders of the Villars Institute Foundation have joined the Giving Pledge, which is a multi-generational community of philanthropists that have made "a public, moral commitment to give the majority of their wealth to charitable causes." Marco Dunand, CEO and co-founder of Mercuria, and Suzan Craig, founder and CEO of TAHI, established the Villars Institute in 2022 to advance “the transition to a net-zero and nature-positive economy through interdisciplinary research, intergenerational collaboration, and systems leadership.” To quote from their inspiring Giving Pledge: “Grounded in the diverse landscapes of New Zealand and Switzerland, our family has been shaped by the beauty and the ecological diversity of these nations. Our experiences have instilled in us a profound appreciation for the delicate balance of nature and the importance of respecting the scientifically defined safe limits essential for preserving Earth’s vital systems and sustaining humanity. We pledge to leverage our resources, networks, and passion to focus on addressing the critical global challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change.” You can read the full pledge here: https://lnkd.in/dezim-kZ We congratulate them and all of the families that signed the #GivingPledge this year.
