A customer approached us with a unique requirement of measuring the manufacturing productivity of the various CNC machines in their plant. This type of metric is called #OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), which is a measure of how well an equipment is utilized compared to it's full potential during the periods when it is normally scheduled to run. ControlX implemented the use of a laser sensor to detect the movement of the required axis of the CNC machine to calculate OEE by recording the uptime and downtime of the machine in the scheduled operating time. This information is recorded into a date & time-stamped CSV file for post-analysis. Our choice of controller for this operation is a #Beckhoff embedded #PLC. The control system is packaged in a small enclosure and can be easily setup with the client's equipment. If you have a custom automation requirement then contact ControlX Engineering Inc. today to see how we can quickly and efficiently design a cost-effective solution for you.
