Did you know? Our ESS and Learning & Development teams recently hosted an incredible program out on the west coast! HOME (Hospitality On The Move ESS) offered an exciting 10-day capacity building program for Indigenous community members at Robin's Nest near Terrace, BC, on Tsimshian, Kitsumkalum, and Kitselas First Nation lands. Mixing career readiness with culinary, housekeeping, and janitorial skills, the program is designed to pave the way for lifelong career growth! Inspired by stories of Indigenous success at Compass, it was both empowering and enjoyable! With 8 enthusiastic learners from BC, Graduation Day celebrated teamwork wins, resume successes, and newfound confidence. Congratulations to our first HOME program graduates! Clean Harbors

Today on National Indigenous People's Day, we value the opportunity to come together to listen, learn and continue to build valued partnerships with Indigenous communities. We honour and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people in Canada.    Our BIPOC Diversity, Inclusion and Action Council invited Chef Steph Baryluk, Sous Chef with one of our Chartwells Canada schools, Simon Fraser University, to host a virtual teaching kitchen for our associates. Steph taught our associates how to recreate traditional recipes such as Three Sisters Maple Salad with Strawberry Sweetgrass Vinaigrette, Fried Bannock and Wildberry Jam!    We were also able to delight our Mississauga associates with a tasting of Chef Steph's very own Mrs. B's Jerky, all the way from BC! Learn more about Mrs. B's Jerky here: https://lnkd.in/e5A_YnRg   Chef Steph is Teetl'it Gwich'in and is from Teetl'it Zheh (Fort McPherson), Treaty 11 Territory located in the Northwest Territories. Recently our ESS and ECC teams celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business at the CCIB Awards with a group of our Indigenous partners from across Canada. In celebration of Indigenous History Month, it was an honour to share this experience with the Indigenous community!     We're proud to be founders and sponsors of two special awards that recognize Indigenous people’s achievements and contributions to their communities and beyond. Congratulations to Nyden Iron-Nighttraveller for winning the Young Entrepreneur Award and Hilda Broomfield Letemplier for the Lifetime Achievement Award!      Adam Shea, our new President for ESS North America, shared his thoughts on the event; “It was a tremendous honour to recognize Nyden and Hilda for their incredible accomplishments. The evening was truly inspiring, filled with powerful stories from change-makers in the Indigenous community. I’m excited to deepen our relationship with the CCIB and to continue the important work we’re doing with the community.”   Congratulations to all the award recipients and to the CCIB on 40 years of impact!
