There’s a new version out of what might be the best multiplatform media center you can find. Kodi 16 ‘Jarvis’ has arrived to the stable channel with lots of new features, among which stand out a long-awaited context menu to pull out when using the app on a television and control with a remote control, and content playback in 4:3 without resizing the other features.

  • Holding down the OK/Enter button on the remote control (of either your TV or one associated with an Android that you use) makes a useful context menu appear from which you can access options that are otherwise difficult to get to, such as the one to mark a video as viewed. Hallelujah!
  • Native playback of 4:3 content without exiting 16:9 mode on your monitor: No more manually resizing what you see to adjust the playback and view it in its original size if it’s not in panoramic view. As mentioned on its official blog, now you can finally watch Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers, and DuckTales how they were meant to be seen.
  • History of changes on the platform. If you’re not a Kodi insider who frequently checks its official forums, it’s nice to be informed of the new features on the app. For precisely that purpose, an events log has been created that summarizes the latest changes made to the different program elements.
  • In addition, improvements have been made to the usability of the add-ons manager, and the music library brought up to the same level as the video one in terms of adding content and scraping metadata from external websites.
