The popular Call of Duty: Warzone, one of the most successful battle royale games on PC and consoles, is going to make the leap to phones with a fully adapted and free version. Say hello to Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, Activision’s new release that brings its first-person shooter saga to smartphones. It’s one of the most highly-anticipated releases, although it’s not yet known exactly when it will be made available internationally. However, we already have a lot of information about this project, and we’re here to tell you everything you need to know about it.

What is Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile?

As its name suggests, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a mobile version of Activision’s popular free-to-play battle royale. It’s essentially the same first-person shooter game as always, but with an even more fun and intense structure: the game takes place on a huge open map, Verdansk, which shrinks in size as the game progresses. In the beginning, there are tons of other players, but this number gets smaller as the game goes on: your goal, obviously, is to stay alive until none of the 120 initial players are left on the map (except for you).

What’s the gameplay like?

What you can expect to find with this game is the classic Call of Duty, but adapted for phones. You’ll have a virtual joystick to move your character in the first person and additional buttons to shoot, throw explosives, jump, crouch or get into vehicles, which you can also drive. You’ll be able to gain experience as you play, unlocking new items and upgrades, all with improved gameplay compared to previous games in the saga for phones.

How is it different from Call of Duty: Mobile?

There’s already a Call of Duty for phones and it’s actually quite popular—in fact, so it’s normal to ask what’s so new about this game to make it a completely separate title? The truth is that it brings plenty of its own new features with respect to the current Call of Duty: Mobile, because it’s based on the great reboot that the saga experienced in 2022: it’ll have new gameplay that’s refined and adapted to mobile devices, a new battle royale-style game structure and it’ll also feature shared progress with the two major console and computer games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, allowing you to share your experience, objects and progress between the three installments.

How shared progress will work between different Call of Duty games

The possibility of sharing progress with the other Call of Duty titles is one of the main assets of this new battle royale, as you can use the weapons you get in the console version in this mobile game, for example. Of course, not all objects can be shared between versions, only those with the “Connected” label. Even so, it’s expected that there will be more compatible items than items that won’t be. It’ll also be possible to keep other things such as characters and battle pass progress, or in other words, the experience obtained.

Will Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile be available for free?

Like its version for computers and consoles, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be a completely free game that will follow the free-to-play formula to offer in-app purchases. In other words, you can download it, install it and play for free, but you also have the option to purchase items voluntarily in the in-app store. In addition, the game will feature a battle pass that will allow you to unlock new equipment as you progress and level up.

When will it be available for phones?

This is the big question that all Call of Duty fans are asking: when will Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile be released? At the moment, this long-awaited video game does not have an exact release date. It was first expected to be available in late 2022, but now it turns out that its worldwide release has been postponed and it’s not expected to be ready until sometime in 2023. The iOS App Store, for example, lists its expected arrival date as May 15 next year.

How to register to be one of the first to play

Just like what usually happens with major mobile releases, Activision has organized a registration campaign that lets users pre-register in order to be notified when Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is available and play it as soon as it comes out. This can be done on the official website of the battle royale and, if you do, you’ll also get the following special rewards when the game comes out:

  • Vinyl “Foes Flame”.
  • Emblem “Dark Familiar”
  • Weapon X12 “Prince of hell”
  • Weapon M4 “Archfiend”.
  • Agent “Ghost Condemned”

On which platforms will it be available for downloading?

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a game for phones so, of course, it will be available on the two major smartphone operating systems: iOS and Android. What we don’t know yet is what requirements your device will need to have in order to be able to run it smoothly. However, we do know that it will be a demanding game: the App Store has already provided compatibility information, and there’s talk that users will need at least an iPhone XS to be able to play. Regardless, like any mobile game, you’ll always be able to play this long-awaited title on your PC thanks to Android emulators.
