It is a 1986 or 1987 stump jumper sport, serial number DS636887. I have the original saddle and all equipment as when purchased. Only the tires are not original.

1And there's no universal database of bike serial numbers, unlike for cars. Specialized is more likely to be able to help you than we are.– Weiwen NgCommented Sep 26, 2020 at 20:34

4Does this answer your question? How can I tell what year my bike was made?– GageMartinCommented Sep 26, 2020 at 21:13

1There's nothing about the bike that strongly suggests a particular vintage. The lugged frame, canti brakes, 3x crank are all consistent with the late 80s or early 90s. Only Specialized could (possibly) associate the serial number with a year of manufacture.– Daniel R HicksCommented Sep 26, 2020 at 21:40

You have an oddball there. I call them changeover bikes but you can call it what you like.
Specialized has a history of building bikes with whatever they had on hand that worked. You got one of those.
Your frame was made in 1986 but it has the model year 1987 brake set. It's got 1986 colors as well. Could have been an early run for the 1986 Christmas season.
It's a model year 1987
Paint was loaded already so some got shot in different from the stated 1987 colors. Appreciate what you have!
Love the old Specialized steel bikes.

1Year of manufacture? from the serial number and the ubrake. Paint? From catalogs. Also the 1986 fork was a unicrown, yours isn't the unicrown it's lugged Commented May 27 at 10:32

1If one was really interested, one could collect the date codes from the shimano parts and we could get a y/m from them as well Shimano date code source bmxmuseum.com/reference/1072?expanded=1 Commented May 27 at 14:21
