Jun 17, 2018 at 19:33 comment added L.Dutch It also saves some weight. In my case I lost 100 grams just by shaving my legs.
Apr 27, 2016 at 21:13 comment added Ealhmund @gaurwraith - Tests done by Specialized one of which is on youtube. I added an answer below with more details
Apr 27, 2016 at 19:55 comment added gaurwraith Altomnr, sources ? I might shave for a Kom :p
Apr 27, 2016 at 5:35 comment added Ealhmund Aerodynamics is a legitimate reason - shaved legs can save anywhere from 50 to 80 seconds over a 40km TT. Shaving arms saves time as well.

"defect" really makes no sense in this context

Dec 17, 2012 at 21:10 comment added Ernie Of course, you could prevent infection/pull off bandages easier by not crashing too. :P
Oct 10, 2012 at 14:06 comment added jimchristie @RegDwight That actually makes a lot of sense. It probably reduces drag in much the same way that dimples on a golf ball reduce drag. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf_ball#Aerodynamics
Sep 3, 2010 at 0:12 comment added RegDwight I can't find the source right now, but allegedly there were studies that showed that you get the least wind resistance if you shave your legs not completely, but leave stripes of hair in strategic places. I'm not making this up, I keep hearing it from veteran cycling commentators every now and then.

Aug 25, 2010 at 22:41 comment added curtismchale I started because of cleaning/crashing when I raced x-country. I continue because my wife thinks it's sexy and my cycling legs look hot. Really for all but the top riders on the Tour wind resistance is just what people say to justify it to themselves and others. I think you might go faster b/c you can see muscle definition and the placebo effect kicks in but that's it for mortals.
Aug 25, 2010 at 20:58 comment added kkeilman I used to think air resistance didn't matter shaved legs vs no, but after watching that Discovery Channel Tour de France special(s) where they demonstrated how even clothing seam placement has effect on drag - I'm curious to see what effect leg hair really has on aero.

Aug 25, 2010 at 20:19 comment added Johan Dahlin Yeah, the answer must include prettiness :) Yeah, wind resistance is not the reason, but many beginners seem to thing so.
Aug 25, 2010 at 20:16 comment added Scott We both neglected to mention the crucial reason: it makes us feel pretty. :P
