Shimano rear derailleurs have the model number stamped into the metal of the inward facing aspect of the parallelogram. This does NOT include any designation (SS, GS, SGS) as to the cage lengths. Some models--especially those designed for 11 or 12 speed rear drivetrains--will have cage length designation (GS or SGS) stamped into the metal of the inner cage plate.– JeffCommented Jan 9, 2023 at 7:47
