🚀 Exciting News! The Butterfly project, our pilot facility, built to test carbon capture at the level of a lime kiln is in the process of commissioning! 🚀
Our inhouse oxyfuel pilot kiln getting ready for start-up! Great visit to project Butterfly – our pilot facility that we build to test carbon capture at the level of a lime kiln! The Carmeuse technologies team, in collaboration with the CRM and partners, is in the process of commissioning the pilot kiln in Belgium. And yes... a pilot can be big as you can see! Lime is a trivial product in many industrial application but as a hard-to-abate sector we have the challenge to find a solution to reduce the CO2 emissions that originate from the chemical conversion of limestone into lime. Very proud to see Carmeuse actively embracing this challenge by working on a solution that is designed and initiated with a vision. A vision to find the most optimal way to decarbonize lime production for our plants across the world. An exciting phase in the project lies ahead of us with multiple testing campaigns over 2024 and 2025! A big thank you and congratulations to the whole team that supported to make it already this far - from idea generation - to concept feasibility - to project management - to design, procurement and execution - to commissioning... The next big step of running the campaigns is approaching! This project is a collaboration between Carmeuse, CRM Group, University of Liège, CTI, EBC, CORETEC, VOCSens and the University of Mons and has received funding support by the Walloon Region and the European Union -NextGenerationEU. A great thanks to all to make this possible. #hardtoabatesector; #decarbonization; #netzero; #teamworkmakesthedreamwork; #innovation; #greendeal
