$\begingroup$ If the ATC does not contact me, but I could hear people communication on the ATC frequency, that means I am within the line of sight communication of some aircrafts, should it be a better way to talk to the ATC frequency rather than 121.5 Mhz? Maybe the aircrafts could help me to relay the emergency and also some ATC told me not everyone will monitor 121.5 Mhz $\endgroup$– VvVCommented Dec 3, 2018 at 3:49

1$\begingroup$ Not all aircraft monitor 121.5, but many do. My understanding is that all radar communications locations, towers and FSS outlets do. Aircraft can relay, and if you can't raise ATC they will relay. In CONUS above 5000 AGL it is rare to not reach ATC. In the US all ATC monitor and can communicate on 121.5 unless they have an equipment failure. $\endgroup$– mongoCommented Dec 3, 2018 at 9:21

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. aircraft-design), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
