It’s no surprise generation and transmission of renewable electrification isn’t meeting targets. With the independent Australian Energy Market Operator belling the cat on potential shortfalls and major blackouts, bioLPG and rLPG will be an important complement to delivering reliable, affordable energy, while relieving pressure on an overburdened electricity grid. The Victorian Government, to its credit, recognises that fact. Today, over 356,000 Victorian homes (2,026,450 nationally) use LPG for home cooking, hot water and heating. It’s been growing as an energy source in homes year-on-year for two decades. LPG is exempt from the state government ban on new gas connections. Families and business can go on using the gas they know and trust for cooking, heating and hot water, while saving a fortune on switching to expensive electrical appliances and refitting premises. Why? Because over the next few years LPG is transitioning to net zero bioLPG, which is made from waste materials and as a byproduct of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. With as many as 15 biorefineries gearing up to produce SAF in the way that produces bioLPG, families and businesses can begin the transition to net zero, without the hefty price tag, while the electricity grid is still dependent on coal - article from The Age today…

Last night's Federal Budget provided more detail on the exciting "Future Made in Australia" program - the Government's 10-year, $22.7b manufacturing blueprint focused on attracting and enabling investment; making Australia a renewable energy superpower; value adding to our resources and strengthening economic security; backing Australian ideas: innovation, digital, science; investing in people and places. A big focus is on renewal energy and regional Australia - especially for states such as Queensland. Having spent some time in recent months talking to Queensland industry leaders and firms in this space for client projects, there are a couple of standout issues that I think need to be tackled in rolling out this important blueprint. First, workforce attraction, retention and skills development, especially in already capacity-constrained parts of the state. Many manufacturing firms in regional Queensland are already struggling to attract and retain skilled workers. There are multiple state and federal spending initiatives across a variety of program areas, industry sectors and infrastructure and housing competing for a tight labour pool. Key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and food processing also rely on the local manufacturing sector (and its skilled workers) in meeting growing customer demand. Second, the scope and role of other sectors in supporting local communities in regional areas need to be addressed. Sectors and services such as health care, schools and community care. Candidate workers (and their families) look at these services when considering a move to regional cities and towns. Are there local maternity services? Can they secure a child care position? What are the local schools like? These are all significant issues that skilled workers consider in relocating from other parts of Australia (or internationally), and they are also under massive strain, especially in regional and rural areas. Importantly, some of these issues look to have been taken into account in the announcements last night- more work and collaboration needs to be done to address them fully. https://lnkd.in/dQzBbBi5

Not only did we welcome several new clients, but we also assisted three existing Canberra business clients sell, all for different reasons: retirement, succession and growth. •Veteninary practice sold to ASX listed company for $8m. •Government consulting business sold to local private organization for $6m. •Electrical business sold for $18m to private equity group. We are also currently assisting an environmental IT company in the process of the sale of their business (and app!) to an international organisation for ~$2m. Due diligence takes a long time and whilst it can be expensive, getting the right advice, both from an accounting/business perspective and legal perspective will save you much more in the long run. The Australian Government has commenced a consultation process for a domestic low carbon liquid fuel industry as part of its plan for a Future Made in Australia. The Department is seeking feedback to ensure Australia has the appropriate policy settings to encourage growth of a low carbon liquid fuel industry. By responding, your views will help inform the design of supply-side measures, such as production incentives for low carbon liquid fuels, and demand-side measures to support the market in Australia. The consultation process is open until 18 July 2024. Outcomes of the consultation are expected to be considered by Government by the end of 2024. Today we have released the latest edition of the PWC Startup Investment Magazine alongside PwC New Zealand and NZ Growth Capital Partners. The data shows that early-stage investment is holding up, but shows an overall decline in funding into Kiwi start-ups to $163m in 2023 from $182m the previous year. Number of deals completed remain consistent with 144 in 2023 vs 142 in 2022, with the main change coming in how the investment dollars are being split. In 2023 we saw the allocation of new to follow on investment change to 1/4 new investment, 3/4 follow on, showing that investors are prioritising and supporting existing portfolio companies more so than new deals.
